All Bubba, All the Time

Hey, remember the other day when the Reds signed Bubba Crosby, and I said something insensitive to the effect that I didn't care? Well, that was back when I thought that Bubba Crosby was just some boring nobody, but now I know better. Now I humbly stand corrected.

I mean, how could a guy possibly be a boring nobody when he has an entire blog dedicated to him?

All Things Bubba appears to be a blog entirely dedicated to Bubba Crosby. To be honest, I didn't comb through the archives to make sure that there aren't other Bubba's involved, but the archives go all the way back to May, which I think is pretty impressive. It sometimes feels like there isn't anything to say here on RHM, and I talk about an entire team.

I think we're going to enjoy following the exploits of All Things Bubba as the season progresses. Ought to be an interesting read, even if he turns out not to be a particularly interesting player.

LOL! Thanks for the link. I think. 🙂

Bubba made quite a splash when he first came up. He homered in his first at-bat as a Yankee, then homered again in his first start two days later. He also made some exciting, crashing-off-the-wall catches in that game, helping Mussina secure his elusive 200th win. A lot of Yankee fans fell in love with him that day. It was truly amazing that he made the team out of spring training; rookies just didn’t do that in the Torre era.

Bubba is never going to be a slugger, but he hits all right if given a chance to play regularly. He’s had only 250 at-bats in four seasons.

He’s a good bunter, and has great speed. He was the best defensive CFer in the Yankees system. He gives 110% to everything he does, and is well-liked in the clubhouse and by the fans. He’s a really nice guy.

    And he’s fun to watch:

Welcome BubbaFan! Pleasure to have you here.

There’s a lot that I don’t like about the direction I’m afraid GM Wayne Krivsky is going to take the Reds, but I have to admit that I’ve got a soft spot for a speedy guy. Hopefully Bubba will give us a chance to get to like him in the greater Cincinnait-land area.

Appreciate the welcome! Looks like a nice place.

(LOL! I just saw your “for ladies only” section. Yum. A lot of Bubba fans are fond of this pic. And not just the ladies. Hey, it is New York. 😉

Much as I love Bubba, I wasn’t expecting him to be the first Yankee grabbed off the free agent list. But it sounds like Krivsky doesn’t expect him to be more than a utility guy. And he won’t be Woemack II. (You don’t know how frustrating it was for Yankee fans to watch Torre put Woemack in the outfield while Bubba rode pine.) He’s signed for about league minimum (and not even that if he ends up in the minors), so it’s not much of risk to give him a shot.

I wonder if Bubba would consider learning 1B? Just to add to his versatility, for substitutions and such. I always thought he’d be great there.

Ooh, very nice. The stripes are such a good look for that particular part of the anatomy.

If Bubba ends up with the team and is willing to put in some time at 1B, I’m sure the Reds would give him a chance there. With Aurilia almost certainly headed elsewhere, Hatteberg is backed up by Adam Dunn, whose skills at first are marginal, and Javier Valentín, and Jason LaRue, who are usually already busy catching the game.

Should any of the Dunn trade rumors come true, the depth gets even less depthy.

  5. KC2HMZ says:

Not only that, Aurilia was the righthanded half of a successful first-base platoon with Hatteberg. If Rich goes somewhere else, well, Hatteberg and Dunn are both lefthanded hitters, and although Javy’s a switch-hitter, he hasn’t had a whole lot of success hitting righthanded if you look at his splits.

Oh, wait. Crosby bats lefthanded too. 😉

RHM, ya better tell Kriv-Dawg to call Kevin Millar’s agent right away.

Millar’s a free agent? Ack. The Yankees will probably be going after him, then. They are desperately seeking a right-handed first baseman. They’ve got Damon, why not Millar, too? And he’s old enough that Torre might actually use him over Giambi now and then. 😛

That fits in with the rumors I’ve been seeing about the Yankee’s interest in Rich Aurilia.
