Spring Training Game Thread 3/4 Reds vs Pirates at Bradenton; Part 2
With all the confusion this morning, I'm only mostly sure that this is the line-up for this afternoon's game:
- Bubba Crosby -- RF
- Scott Hatteberg -- 1B
- Brandon Phillips -- 2B
- Josh Hamilton -- CF
- David Ross -- C
- Mark Bellhorn -- 3B
- Juan Castro -- SS
- Chris Denorfia -- LF
- Homer Bailey -- RHP
Joe Nuxhall doing color for Marty.
Although with Marty no one ever truly does color, do they… Marty has plenty of commentary to add to the game.
Crosby walks to lead things off.
HOME RUN Hatteberg! Over the 370 sign in right-center. Guess Scott is ready for the season to start.
Phillips flies out to LF.
marty: No doubt Hamilton is the best defensive outfielder on this team right now.
hamilton grounds out.
Ross strikes out. 2-0 Reds.
Is the wind blowing out again?
Bang bang play at 1B, Castro throws out Duffy.
Not sure about the wind.. no mention so far.
Ground out to Phillips.
Fly out. End of the 1st inning. Reds lead 2-0.
Bellhorn flies out to CF.
Arroyo was scratched from the B game with flue symptoms… I still think it might be a hangover.
Chacon field’s Castro’s shot up the middle and throws him out at first.
Denorfia hits a rocket to CF, base hit.
Trent says the wind is blowing in today. Bellhorn’s fly out would have been a home run on Thursday.
Bailey has good mannerisms at the plate, according to Marty and Joe.
This is typical for Chac. He takes “pitching to contact” to a whole new level.
Bailey strikes out on a curve.
Adam LaRoche draws a walk off of Bailey.
Flare to right center, drops in for a basehit. A jam shot. Fights off the fastball in on his hands.
That was Bautista with the single… now it is Matos, the guy that hit 2 home runs in the first game.
Crosby makes the catch in right. 1 out.
Just noticed how filthy my keyboard is. Dust, dirt and a tiny dead ant carcass.
Some sticky red stuff, probably jelly.. and some of my hair, probably from when I pulled most of it out last September.
Full count to Hernandez. Runner at first was going. High chopper, foul ball.
Line drive to RF, into the bullpen… 2 run double for Jose Hernandez. Fastball up and over the plate. Tie game, 2-2.
LOL, Joe Nuxhall called him Dick Pool who is visiting Homer at the mound.
Einar Diaz, line drive single on an 0-2 count. Runner held at 3B with Crosby charging and throwing.
Einar is Bo Diaz’s son isn’t he? Bo, a former Reds catcher.
Wild pitch… lead run scores. Another 0-2 pitch.
Homer making a case for seasoning at Triple A.
Now he punches out Chacon. Duffy coming up.
Another pitch in the dirt, Diaz moves on to third.
ground out to Phillips. End of 2, Pirates now with the lead 3-2.
38 year old Japanese pitcher.
Crosby with a one hopper to the SS.
I have no idea how to spell this pitchers name. It sounsd like Nuxhall is saying Wahada, but I thought Marty pronounced it differently when he was warming up last inning.
Hatteberg strikes out.
Now I think he said Fwada. Whatever. Strike 3 to Phillips. Reds go down in order. Whatever his name is he did pretty good.
Masumi Kuwata. Trent says there’s a horde of Japanese reporters there today, chasing after him. He’s a legend, in Japan.
New pitcher on for the Reds. Nuxhall has no idea who it is… after a long pause they realize it is Cormier.
Strikeout. 2 outs.
Is Kuwata a starter or a reliever? Pirates may have found a magic gem.
With all the buzz on the Red Sox signing that other Japanese pitcher wouldn’t surprise me a bit if this guy turns out to be better (in the short term). Such is my disdain for media hype.
I think they plan to use him as a starter. But he signed a minor league contract, and most expect him to start in Triple-A.
Not sure how LaRoche got on first but full count to bautista so LaRoche will be running.
After a few foul balls, Bautista draws a walk. Back to back walks.
Pop out to Hatteberg. After 3 innings, Pirates lead 3-2.
Hey, I want to hear more about the crap in your keyboard! :O
There is a strange small yellow substance to the left of the Tab key.. I think it could be dried egg. Lots of crumbs in the cracks.
I love this keyboard, its a champ. I am thinking about taking a wipie to it though.
3-1 to Hamilton. Off of LaRoche’s glove and into right field. They give the kid a base hit. His average stays at .500 I think.
I think it’s time, man. You can get these little swabs that are pre-moistened with alcohol to clean between the keys, but there’s nothing better than a brush for cleaning out crumbs.
I clean my keyboard at work about once a week. People think that I’m fastidious, but considering I eat two meals a day at my desk every work day, I don’t think it’s too much. I mean, people would think it was pretty gross if I only wiped off my dining room table once a week.
