I'd have to say that Paul Wilson is the favorite for #5 pitcher at this juncture, with Bailey looking like he needed some more seasoning in the minors after yesterday's struggles in the 2nd inning. We haven't seen ELizardo at all, not sure if he is healthy or not. I guess Saarloos and Livingston are in the mix as well, but they can always use Saarloos as a swing man since he has bullpen experience, and I don't know if you want to do that with Wilson who is coming off of a major arm injury.. better to have him in a set routine.
Fly out to Josh Hamilton.
Maybe he’s just better off on the runway, then. He *is* a good-looking fella.
I’ve got a 2:00, but I’ll be back.
Well, I missed hearing who is now pitching for the Reds…we’ll find out after the Reds bat. But Wilson got pulled, and he probably should have been lifted for a PH the previous inning. Oh well, its only Spring Training.
Phillips at bat.
2 2/3 IP for Wilson, walked 3 struck out 3 allowed, 5 runs and 7 hits.
Hi everybody. Two things…I think the Reds would like nothing better than for Hamilton to win the starting CF slot and push Griffey to RF…and I think they should trade Conine for a PTBNL and give the roster slot to Bellhorn and let him platoon with Hatteberg at first.
Oh, and I’ve wanted to see Belisle get an extended shot as a starter for two years now, he can’t be worse than Dave Williams was, can he?
Phillips lines out to Victorino in CF.
Saarloos was the pitcher that came in for Wilson.
Ah, Dave Williams, that man that inexplicably baffled the Reds the day they retired Spary Anderson’s number, and who could do nothing positive once he joined us.
Hamilton draws the walk.
Encarnacion drives one off the wall in CF. Long double that barely missed getting out of there.
Dunn with an opportunity to get the Reds back in the game.
A swing and a miss.
Dunn base hit to RF, Hamilton and Encarnacion both come in to score. HOORAY! Dunn’s first single of the spring couldn’t have come at a better time.
Alfredo Simon is pitching for the Phillies btw.
Javier Valentin now at bat. Fastball outside, 1-0.
Line drive single drops in front of Victorino in CF. Alex Gonzalez coming up, representing the tying run.
The announcers make a big deal about a difficult infield pop up but it was an Infield fly rule in effect I believe. 2 outs.
It’s up to Bellhorn now.
Full count, runners will be moving…
Fly ball to LF… caught.
5-2 Phillies lead, headed to the 4th inning.
Jerry Gil now playing CF. Saarloos facing Shane Victorino.
Saarloos with an unassisted put out.
C-Trent is using nicknames for ever player… so I can barely make sense of his blog right now.
Chase Utley with a bloop single.
he refers to Josh Hamilton as “The Natural” “Wonder Boy” and “Roy Hobbs” all in the same paragraph… that might be over-doing it.
Utley gets thrown out stealing. Valentin to AGON who makes the tag.
Foul ball gets a piece of Valentin…he is a bit shaken up.
He shakes it off and the fans applaud knowing full well Moeller is lurking on the depth chart.
Not bad for Valentin to nail utley. Utley has 37 career regular-season steals and has only been caught eight times.
Karim Garcia with a line drive down the RF line. A 2 out double.
Wow this is Steve Stewart (the bad boy) doing the play-by-play. I just realized that! I thought it was the Phillies announcers…lol.
What threw me off was the fact that there are no commercials in this broadcast so I didn’t realzie it was a Reds home broadcast… because MLB audio is listing this feed as a road broadcast.
Reds get out of the inning with no damage done. Still 5-2.
Stewart is doing the game all by himself. I guess the Reds are giving him an opportunity to audition for other teams.
I remember Garcia from when he played minor league ball in Buffalo a few years back, when he was in the Indians’ organization. He’s got quite an arm on him.
Victorino makes the catch…Hopper flies out.
Saarloos now at-bat. Not a lot of batting experience, 2 hits out of 36 ABs in his career.
Saarloos hacks at it, and gets a hit to CF!
Fly ball to CF…its GONE! HOME RUN BRANDON PHILLIPS!!!
His third dinger of the spring. Reds cut the lead to 5-4.
Yeah, but one of ’em was a two-run double. 😎
Remember Phillips spent the majority of last season towards the bottom of the lineup. He wore down at the end of the season when they started moving him up in the lineup. I expect a big year from him, and with him at the top of the lineup our offense should click nicely if the sluggers do their jobs.
Gil grounds out to short. 2 outs.
Huh? Stewart said that was Phillips third home run. I seem to recall 3 home runs including this one.
Phillies switch pitchers. Former Red, Germano now on the hill facing Edwin Encarnacion.
Ground out to Dobbs at 3B. 5-4 Phillies lead after 4 innings.
Justin Germano??
This must be were the reds take the lead.
Hope they leave him in there for the fifth.
Hal McCoy visiting in the booth.
McCoy: Paul Wilson beating himself up about his rough start.
Wes Helms leads off with a single.
McCoy: Bailey has his head screwed on straight. He also praised Josh Hamilton for his demeanor and personality.
Do you guys know what Marty’s nickname for Trent turned out to be? That guy and his nicknames…
A would-be double play ball is mishandled so they get the out at 2nd only. Ruiz up, 1 on and 1 out.
No, but I got a few choice names for C. Trent… but I don’t want to snipe him this early in his career. I get the feeling it wouldn’t take much to crush his spirit, he’s so green.
Wes Helms is the nephew of former Reds 2B and NL rookie of the year Tommy Helms, by the way.
Home Run… damn! Carlos Ruiz extends the lead to 7-4. Saarloos hung that one.
The Reds could have used Wes Helms… we need a 1B with some power to platoon with hatteberg. The fact Conine already has a bad back is disturbing. Does Helms bat right handed?
How is it that there are so many related people in baseball? Does baseball talent run in families, or is it a matter of getting the right connections?
Rollins flies out to Dunn. 2 outs.
Arroyo threw 49 pitches in a simulated game this morning.
Ground out to Phillips. 7-4 Phillies, Reds coming up.
