smartelf, he beat you to the punch. Didn’t you know you need to post these diaries over two hours before the games begin?? 😛
So, what’s up HMZ? Ready for Daylight Saving Time?
Hello, RHM. That didn’t take long!
I’d rather they leave the clock alone and quit confusing me twice a year, but yeah, I’m ready, I guess.
Cool I slept late and assumed I missed the game… glad to see its a late start. PURE EVIL, lol… tha tmight be a slight exaggeration… but funny nontheless.
Jeff Conine batting clean up…. I hope that’s the last time we have to see that.
These two guys I work with bitch about DST twice a year, like clockwork. It’s like listening to the crusty old cranks in the balcony of the Muppet Show, except not funny.
I’m home a little early today because I had to bring the kid home from daycare. He cannot seem to shake this scarlet fever that’s been dogging him for a week. It’s been pretty miserable late nights for yours truly, who somehow always ends up being the one awoken by his need for more Tylenol. Darn that mother-child bond!
As for Conine batting clean-up, I can practially guarantee that it won’t be the last time.
I’ll definitely second that motion.
According to C. Trent, Dunn, Griffey, Hatteberg, and Gonzalez didn’t make this trip. Valentin’s the only one of the three “regular” vatchers who made the trip, and the pitchers who made the trip are gonna be Livingston, Ramirez, Weathers, Salmon, and Burton.
Other than that and the lineups, all he’s come up with so far is the earth-shaking news that babe Ruth is still dead.
😥
Scarlet fever, yuck…I do hope he gets better real soon, Amanda. Reds fever is okay, but we don’t want the little guy having the scarlet kind.
Watch Conine hit a lucky HR and then Jerry gets the notion to bat him cleanup whenever he plays. God help us all in that scenario.
I look at this lineup and it is obvious to me to bat Phillips 3rd and Encarnacion 4th. Valentin should be 5th and THEN Conine in the 6 spot. It bothers the hell outta me that Jerry doesn’t see the obvious logic of that. I know its Spring Training, but I expect bizarre lineups like this one for the rest of the season.
Sorry forgot about Hamilton…he is ok where he is.
Still, your point stands, Conine does not strike me as a good choice of cleanup guys when you have EE and Hamilton in that lineup.
In typical 5-year old form, he can have a 104-degree fever and be covered with red splotches and be bouncing around wanting me to play Go Fish with him. Then, 12 hours later, he can have a 100-degree fever and be moaning and writhing around.
I think you’re on to something there, smartelf. Little Eddie has seemed to me like the 4th-hitter-of-the-future since The Trade. Maybe he’s still too green.
Wow. The Yanks are fielding the big guns. I think that’s more first string players than played in most of their regular season games last year.
Conine is 0-for-2 with two K’s this spring, and is a .200 hitter lifetime off Pettitte, so Narron bats him cleanup. I guess he wants to get that first loss out of the way before it becomes too big of an issue.
And in case anyone’s wondering, Encarnacion is 4-for-15 off Pettitte (.267) but three of the four hits have been doubles.
Kevin Kelly from the Enquirer says Lohse threw 61 pitches today in a simulated game, and broke Griffey’s bat with a changeup.
OK, Go Fish has been played and I’m back. Now I’m sporting a 100.5 degree fever, too, but I’m not doing as well as my son. I guess grown-ups are the bigger babies.
Now to see if I can figure out how to listen to the game on-line. They sure don’t make it easy…
Roger Clemens is at the game. As a spectator.
Freel bunts to 3B, A-Rod can’t make the play, Freel safe at 1B.
If nothing else, listening to the spring training games online gives you a nice sense of accomplishment. 😉
Wow, a woman in the booth? What’s up with that BubbaFan?
Holy crap. Deno’s bat shattered, and clobbered Pettitte. He’s got blood on his pitching hand.
But Robby Cano dodged the splinters, made the pick, and turned the DP.
Andy still in the game. None on, two outs.
En-ar-car-see-own.
Wouldn’t you think that baseball announcers would be familiar with hispanic last names?
Boo! I want the Reds to score in EVERY inning!
The Yankees regular radio announcers are John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. I gather she’s one of the first women to work in sportscasting. I never thought much of it; she’s always been there, since I became a baseball fan.
Andy gets the third out…
Freel shows off his speed, makes a nice catch. One out.
Who are you rooting for tonight, BubbaFan?
Jeter grounds out, Giambi pops it up to the pitcher.
YES announcers are talking about what workhorses Arroyo and Harang have been for the Reds.
I want the Reds to continue undefeated. Though there are some Yankees I hope don’t suck too much. 🙂
And Conine gets his first hit of the season, into RF…
The line-ups seems a little lopsided. Are the Yankees determined to beat the undefeated Reds, or do they always send out the big guns?
Phillips hits one past Jeter into the hole. Two on, no outs.
One baseball writer said that his little daughter thought Jeter’s first name was “Pastadiving.”
Mmmm…diving in pasta 😀
The Hammer walks. Bases loaded.
They always send out the big guns. Like I said, there’s no chance for a young player to make the roster. So the Yanks don’t do split squad games much.
It’s not a [em]bad[/em] philosophy to let other teams develop talent and then buy it. But it seems like the Yanks still don’t buy the right talent, you know?
Pettitte strikes out LLM on a wicked curveball, then gets Castro to GIDP to get out of the inning.
TJ Beam (also known as “Batboy” – as in the World Weekly News batboy) is warming. IMO, he’s not ready for prime time. Blazing fastball, but it’s laser straight. Blows away Triple-A hitters, but in the big leagues, it’s a home run waiting to happen.
A-Rod his a rocket to the gap. Freel can’t quite catch up to it.
I think the Yankees are getting better at buying talent. Cashman is in charge now, and he’s determined to develop the farm and not overpay for veterans. We’ll see how it goes.
And Matsui hits it over Phillips head. A-Rod blows through the stop sign. He’s out. LLM gets clobbered, though.
Another base hit. This could get ugly real wuick.
Ah, cool, they got out of a jam there.
Posada is looking lean and mean this year. He hits a rocket to RF, but Hopper chases it down. Matsui still on 1B. Two outs.
Robby Cano at the plate. He hits one to RF, drops in in front of Hopper. Hopper kept hopping this inning. Matsui to 2B.
But Minky’s at the plate. Probably the weakest hitter in the lineup.
And yes, he grounds out. EE makes a nice grab.
A-Rod blowing through the stop sign probably cost the Yanks at least one run.
WCBS-880 is in and out here, sometimes I have it, sometimes I don’t.
🙁
There’s competition for the title of Bat boy? I thought Jack Wilson had it all tied up!
Whoah. Deno beats the tag. Error on Minky. Or A-Rod?
Two outs, Deno on 1B.
Error on E-Rod.

EE walks. Two on, two out for Conine. Wish we had Hamilton hitting cleanup instead of Conine. Dagnabbit!!!
Ah, yes, that guy was teased a lot in school…
And Pettitte gets out of it, striking out Conine.
Scoreless through two and a half. So far, so good for Livingston, eh?
