Sorry I’m late; the scarlet fever rules my life today. Ugh.
Harang fielded an out before surrendering a homer. Now there are two away in the top of the first.
Steve Stewart just said that Casey didn’t make the trip to Sarasota to see his old team. What?? That doesn’t seem very Mayor-ish to me.
In the middle of one, the Tigers are up 1-0 on that Polanco homer.
Bottom of the first, Hatteberg works the count and eventually walks. Gotta love a guy who can work it.
Gah, fielder’s choice. Edwin Encarnación did at least take a lot of pitches, though.
Dunn strands Eddie with a swinging strike out. It was totally swinging.
After 1, the Tigers keep the lead 1-0.
Dang, a 2-run homer by Shelton makes the Tigers’ lead 3-0. You’d think these guys were the reigning AL champs or something.
Infante gets aboard. When does the pitcher hit??
Stewart just said that the Tigers’ pitcher, Robertson, is 2-for-7 on the spring. How the heck has he had seven ABs already this spring?
In any event, he failed in his bunt attempt and we’re back to the lead-off hitter, Granderson.
Woo-hoo, Freel throws out Infante at third to end the inning. After 1 1/2, the Tigers lead 3-0.
Perhaps the Tigers are feeling frustrated about their treatment at the hands of the Cardinals. That’s one way to explain the sudden offensive outburst.
1-2-3 inning as Phillips, Hamilton, and Gonzalez went in order. Jeepers, I went down to check on my son and it was all over with by the time I got back!
I’m sure it was a traumatic time for them, Zeldink.
It was a fast inning.
Polanco back up to lead off the third. He hit a home run in his first AB.
This is Harang’s last inning this game. I’d like for him to do better than in his first two, por favor.
Here’s the intermittently updated, hidden Gameday link, if anyone’s interested.
Polanco’s on base. The Tigers have six hits already. Do the Reds have ANY?
Nice play by EdE to get the lead runner out at 2nd!
Awesome. Thanks, Zeldink.
Sheffield hits into a FC to take Polanco off the basepath. Nice play by Phillips from the sound of Steve’s description.
Oh, was it EdE? Good to know.
w00t! Hamilton steps it up a notch to rob Ordoñez of a hit. Step it up, boys, it’s you’re only chance!
Rodriguez works a full count before an RBI double to right. Dammit, Harang.
Steve Steward just said that Ken Broo is there. He’s very tall.
Finally, Inge flies out to right and ends the inning as well as Harang’s turn on the mound. In the middle of three, the Tigers have four runs, the Reds still don’t have a hit.
I was in the sports book the other day… Reds are 28-1 to win the world series… which are the same odds as the Astros. They are right around the middle of the pack as far as odds are concerned. The Cubs are just 4-1 and the Yanks are the overall favorites at 7-2. The Marlins actually have a better chance than the Reds at 23 to 1, which I think is ridiculous. I think the Cardinals were 15-1 to repeat.
Did they just accounce happy Birthday to Ryan Freel on the P.A.?
Ah, Reds Lucky Stamps.
I wish I were there to buy a program and not win. Seriously, does anyone ever win with that promotion?
Oh! happy birthday Ryan Freel.
Last year the Reds were 70-1 major long shots.
What’s a Reds Lucky Stamp?
Robertson walks Ross and Valentín to lead off the bottom of the third. I love baserunners!
I heard the stadium announcer in the audio feed during a non-commercial break.
Basically, you buy a program, and at times between innings throughout the game, the announcer tells people to turn to a certain page. If there’s a Reds Lucky Stamp on that page in your program, you win!
Yep, it’s definitely Ryan Freel’s birthday. I believe he’s 31. I remember, because it’s also my anniversary of starting my current job.
Freel with the double. Did that bring in a run?
Hatteberg chews out the ump on a called strike.
OK, I thought I heard that there were two walks to start off the inning, but there’s also an out. What happened with Ross? Perhaps I’ll have to wait until the sporadically updated Gameday is updated.
Hatteberg strikes out looking. Pitching change for the Tigers.
No runs in… 2nd and 3rd two outs. Hatteberg got a called strike 3.
4-1 chance for the Cubs? No way in hell.
I don’t remember, but Ross was called out on something or other.
Yea I was shocked… anyone paying 4 to 1 odds on the Cubs needs to have their heads examined.
Rodney now pitching for the Tigers, facing Encarnación with two outs in the third. Valentín’s on third and Freel’s on second. You know that’s driving Freel nuts; no steal!
Encarnacion struck out…damN!
Cormier now pitching for the Reds.
Freel with a sliding grab in shallow center after pitcher Fernando Rodney fouled off a ton of pitches to the delight of the crowd.
Cormier must have done all-right; the top of the inning is already over. Sounds like they let Rodney hit. I guess they’d have to, since he faced only one in the last inning.
Just heard something about a Skyline Chili Coney Dog on the P.A.
Mmmm…coney dog!
So what the heck? Why does the crowd seem so pro-tigers?
That *does* sound good. I’ve been too sick to eat, but I’m finally starting to feel hungry for the first time today. Probably a coney dog wouldn’t be the ideal choice, though 🙂
I think the crowd just liked getting free souvenirs… but yea they have some Tigers fans there… they were in the world series afterall so their fans are giving them support.
DUNNER tags one deep… no runners on though.
Yay! Dinger by Dunn finally get the Reds on the board in the fourth inning. 4-1 Tigers
Home run, Adam Dunn!
I don’t really know what Scarlet Fever is, but it sounds suspiciously like Reds Fever… you sure you just don’t have Reds Fever, RHM?
Phillips fouls one off his foot. Yeouch!
The Pre-season Red Sox hype is disgusting…

Triple for Josh hamilton!
It’s my son who has the scarlet fever. It’s strep throat with an ugly rash. He’s had it for two weeks because after more than half a cycle of amoxicillin, it resurged. Now he’s on a new prescription, hopefully that will do the trick, because our spring training vacation is right around the corner.
I have an ugly cough and terrible exhaustion, if not caused by, at least made worse by the fact that I’ve had to be up multiple times a night every night for two weeks to check on my son, administer medications, etc.
He’s feeling a little better now; he’s actually playing on the computer next to me, which is nice because now I don’t have to run up and down the stairs between every inning to take care of him.
Woo, go Hamilton!
I liked the way Hamilton hustled to stretch his double into a triple. And he ended it with a head-first slide. Very nice.
I hope your son gets all better real soon.
