Thanks guys. I hope so too. 🙂
Through four, the Tigers still lead 4-1, but the door is opening. The Reds can come back!
Ross strikes out. You know David is not looking good so far. Anyone know how LaRue is doing for KC? Let the second-guessing begin!
Wow LaRue has 2 homers and a slugging pct of 1.286 to go with a .429 BA and OBP.
Buck is hanging with him with a .600 BA and 1 homer. Should be quite a battle for the starting job.
Freel with a diving catch!
Dunn covers a lot of ground to make the catch. 2 outs.
Grsnderson steals 2B. Magglio Ordonez at the plate. basehit to LF, runner comes in to score.
It’s not looking good.
Meadows is pitcing this inning btw… chopper off of Edwin’s glove, they rule it a basehit, do or die play. Runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs, Inge coming up. 5-1 Tigers with the lead.
Machado makes the play himself.
Perhaps this will be the day the Reds are stopped. It would be kind of funny, coming the day after a tie, like they’d run out of steam.
Now the Reds trail 5-1. This is not looking good for keeping their loss-less streak alive.
I’m not sure that LaRue would be doing as well for the Reds–motivation from the change of scenery and all–but there’s no question in my mind that the Reds should have been shopping Ross around while he was so high.
Of course, maybe they were.
Any chance for Janish to make the club over Castro? Probably not, but Castro proving he still can’t hit, and Janish has done pretty good offensively so far this spring.
Machado, Freel, and Hatteberg were out so fast that Steve Stewart has asked John Fay to stick around for the top of the next inning. He didn’t even completely answer one question!
Now, I didn’t dream Machado going to the Rockies, did I? Didn’t they have him actually start a few games at short?
I doubt that offensive prowess would be enough to get Janish on the team over Castro. They know that Castro doesn’t hit and they’re OK with it. If Janish were to out-do him defensively, on the other hand…
AGON climbs the ladder to make a great catch, robbing Infante of a hit.
Agon with the nice play. 😉
Gosling is pitching this inning.
Deep home run by Wilson off of Gosling. 6-1 tigers.
Pop out ends the inning. John Fay pretty much said a lot of nothing. The #5 starter is up fror grabs, with Saarloos being the favorite, and Hamilton is 95% probablity to make the club. Bailey will almost certainly start the year in AAA but will get the call sooner or later, maybe sooner.
Livingston was pretty impressive against the Yankees yesterday. Not sure we should rule him out. Fay acknowledged Belisle has the best stuff of the #5 candidates… basically our staff is way deeper than it has been in recent years. We have a lot of options.
Enough with the non-Reds home runs!
I think you’re being too generous with John Fay; I thought he said some kind of dumb things. Like that last comment about how the team still doesn’t know how they’re going to score enough runs. Um, so far, so good.
Furthermore, he consistently mispronounced Saarloos’s name, even after Steve Stewart said it correctly. He’s a reporter; doesn’t he talk to these guys?
BUBBA ALERT! He’s pinch running at second.
Woo-hoo! 2 RBI triple for Gil! 6-3 Tigers.
Gil cuts the lead in half! He’s looking like anything BUT a fish out of water.
Forgive me for the bad pun. I’ve been listening to Steve Stewart.
😀
Listening to Steve Stewart today makes me like Brantley even less. I’m a sucker for a bad pun!
I also love that he uses “whom” and pronounces the r in “February.”
Go Gonzalez!
No doubt the offense disappeared down the stretch last season, but I don’t think it is likely Dunn struggles like that again at the beginning of the season and I expect Phillips to start off strong. Kearns is basically a #6 hitter with historical injuries, I don’t see how his trade can be considered a major detriment to the offense. Felipe was a nice little spark plug, but we went with superior defense, and I think Phillips can bat high in the order, so again, no big deal. Yea Griffey and Conine are old so you don’t really know what you are gonna get from them… but I think Hamilton and Bubba are inversely young and might surprise some people. They are both first round draft choices that haven’t had much of a chance to show what they can do. I think either one can be as good if not better than Kearns.
Sure there are some question marks, so I can see where he is going with that… Edwin is still pretty Green and he is being expected to be a major run producer. I think their is validity that there are more questions on offense than there are with the pitching, but there are questions on both units and with every team this time of year so you take it with a grain of salt and sort of trust it will work itself out one way or the other. I certainly don’t think we are mediocre in either area.
Gil might be a nice little player somewhere down the road. i think he has to put another year of AAA under his belt but he has nice extra base ability. I don’t think they have decided upon his position either.. he plays SS, 2B and OF.
Stewart will find a home somewhere… I miss him too.. he is too good to go unemployed.
Machado walks… bases loaded for Votto!
Drat! Votto Ks.
Votto strikes out… and RHM you are right a lot of Tigers fans applauding.
It’s up to Bellhorn now!
After six the Tigers lead just 6-4.
They get Bellhorn at 1B. They cut the lead to 6-4 heading into the 7th. Never say die!
Even the mighty Yankees are going with defense, by playing Mientkiwics at 1B instead of another big bopper. Small ball is in these days.
Miscommunication results in a dropped ball in shallow RF.
Shot down the LF line past Bellhorn who is now playing 3B. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. No out or 1 out? The scoreboard says 1, but there are no outs. Who the heck is pitching? A lefty I think…maybe Stanton?
Infield basehit…bases loaded no outs. 15 hits for the Tigers today.
Scoreboard still showing 1 out.
Tigers have the bases loaded after Moeller failed to get the guy at first. Steve said it was a tough play, but golly.
Dewayne Wise caught the ball in RF corner, it was foul and results in a run scored, SAC FLY.
There are 2 outs..Steve Stewart missed a batter somewhere.
Shelton called out on strikes. 7-4 now.
As long as Gil is still in the game, we have a chance.
Pop out by Moeller.
Bubba, Gil, and Hamilton are the next 3 hitters.
Bubba flys out to CF.
You never know, man. Everyone with a bat is dangerous. :hehe:
You know, for as much defense as this team is supposed to have and as little offense, the score is awfully 7-4.
Gil grounds out. The rally will have to wait till next inning.
My boy’s sitting here with me, and really wants me to use the HA sign. So I’ll have to think of something appropriate to its usage…
Boy, that inning was awesome! :ha:
