Reds Vs. Indians 3/9
Woo-hoo! My turn to start a game thread. Sweet.
The lineups, as always, provided by C.
Indians
Sizemore CF
Francisco RF
Dellucci LF
Garko 1B
Blake 3B
Shoppach C
Rouse 2B
Rivas SS
Adam Miller P
Reds
Freel CF
Hamilton RF
Encarnacion 3B
Dunn LF
Conine 1B
Gonzalez SS
Ross C
Castro
Arroyo P
Brandon Phillips was originally going to be playing 2b, but was a late scratch. Even so, this is a lineup we might have to get used to during the season this year.
Yippee! Reds up 1-2, right?
Maybe it’s time for the Reds to accept that they’re going to have a left-handed first baseman. It just seems to be in the cards.
AGON out on a one hopper. Runners remain in place.
But Hatteberg has a .239 career average against left handed pitching. That is hard to accept.
Ross down on strikes.
Blake makes a nice play to get Castro by a step. Reds strand a couple runners, but take the lead 2-1 after 4 innings of play.
Homer Bailey now pitching.
Homer Bailey’s pitching for the Reds as they move into the fifth leading 2-1.
Crosby and Deno stay in the game.
Gil playing short, Bellhorn playing 2B, Dewayne Wise in LF, Deno moves to CF.
Homer gets ahead 0-2 and then plunks the batter.
Bronson was feeling poorly… he needed an IV
hermanson felt good… no pain.
An IV?
Walks Shopach on 4 pitches.
Oh gosh, you’d think he’d never plunked a guy before!
3-1 count… crowd cheered after that last strike.
Home Run, 3 run homer by Rouse. 4-2 Indians now leading.
Well scratch Homer off your list of #5 candidates if you haven’t already.
Bounces back to strike out Rivas.
Herrera walks. Called strike to Grady Sizemore.
Another home run! Bailey getting lit up like a pinball machine.
Now 6-2 Indians. Ben Francisco up.
Peter King and Peter Gammons scouting the Reds today.
Bailey gets the hook after facing 8 batters…
We should have baseball animations in addition to the emoticons… like a big flashing “K” and an animated hook is what I want to use right now…
Ooh! CTS are you listening to this?
What do you charge for your ideas, smartelf?
That half an inning is now mercifully over. heading to the bottom of the 5th, 6-2 Indians lead.
Well, I think we know who’s not going to be the 5th starter…
Denorfia is retired. here is Mark Bellhorn.
Bellhorn gets hit by the pitch.
Valntin K’s on an offspeed pitch.
Yeesh, I step out for a moment and Bailey erases any and all doubt about starting at Louisville this year.
I do hope that he’ll be able to get major league batters out some day, hopefully later this year. He’s got a lot to learn.
Quote from Bronson:
“I’ve gotta get outta here and go get an IV… but my command was there.”
Encarnacion strikes out. End of the 5th.
Victor Santos now on the mound. First batter grounded out to Bellhorn.
Shopach strikes out.
I really don’t like this “reading e-mails” stuff. Can’t he talk about the game?
An IV of what, I wonder. You don’t typically just give people IVs when they’re concious, able to swallow, and not in need of long-term medical attention.
Maybe it’s code. An Inch of Vodka? Or a girl named Ivy?
You should send him an e-mail and ask. >:-)
I’ve heard of administering IVs of the person needs fluids fast, for severe dehydration. I’ve seen it in football. If he had the flu its possible. He might have been exaggerating just to get his point across. Who knows?
Grady makes a super catch vs Gil.
They give IVs to athletes all the time. Sometimes even when they’re not sick. Just because it’s hot.
The Yankees weigh all the players before and after games when it’s really hot, and anyone who’s lost too much weight gets an IV.
“Bronson, you’re in such a severe state of dehydration that we can’t wait for you to actually inbibe fluids. Oh, but go ahead and have your radio interview before we start the IV.”

The Reds always choke when they get national media attention. Sports Illustrated and ESPN both doing stories about the Reds the past couple of days so the Reds stink it up.
Those quotes were relayde to Steve Stewart in the booth, RHM. Those were his parting words as he was exiting the game.
Bubba, I didn’t know it was given out as routinely as that… but then again no expense to be spared for the Yankees.
Shackelford now in the game after Santos gave up a base hit.
Steve Stewart: “I left my heart in Ben Francisco.”
Eeewwwww! :O
Athletes get IVs pretty routinely these days. Dehydration, even if it’s not life-threatening, is very exhausting. So they give them IVs to make sure they bounce back fast so they can keep playing/training.
Machado with a high throw — valentin playing 1B makes a high leap to complete the put-out.
I don’t doubt it, smartelf. I just think it’s a ridiculous idea. Obviously there are times when it’s necessary, but using invasive techniques when noninvasive ones are available is just opening up bloodlines to infection.
There’s a lower concentration of oxygen in the air at higher altitudes, but I don’t think anyone would recommend that the Rockies give all their players tracheotomies.
Valentin makes a high leap? What’s his vertical, I wonder.
