I love the way Trent calls them “Satan’s Rays of Sunshine.” 😀
They’ve been pretty pesky for the Yanks the last couple of years. NY used to pad their record by beating up on the Rays, but lately, they’ve been a right pain. Just the kind of scrappy, speedy, hustling type of team that drives the Yankees nuts.
And Bubba gets the start in RF. I think this is the first time he’s started in right.
Promoted! Thanks, Redsfan68!
I’m here and not even food-poisoned. Though I did cook with tofu for the first time tonight, so I guess you could still consider me touch-and-go.
baldelli is retired.. but Carl Crawford hits a triple off of Arroyo on a ball that goes between Bubba and Hamilton the new Dynamic Duo.
Hatteberg catches a foul ball. 2 down, maybe they will strand Crawford.
Now we know why Tampa Bay has a dysmal spring record with just 1 win and 9 losses. 3 outs.
Man, how bummed would you be if the Reds were 1-9? Dang.
Gonzalez inexplicably batting leadoff. I think Bubba or Phillips would be better in this role.
Up against the wall, a lead off double.
I think A-Gon will be a better hitter than most Reds fans think.
We’ve been there, RHM… and you know what we’d be doing, we’d be grilling Narron and Krivsky… but right now things are looking good. No one takes Tampa bay seriously anyhow, they are basically a minor league team when compared to the Yankees and Red Sox.
Narron must try every single player at lead-off. It is his mission.
BubbaFan, I don’t think I realized that the Rays were scrappy. Scrappy’s such fun, but they seem like a glum team to me. Maybe that’s because they always seem to be losing and don’t seem to have any fans.
I am guessing most Reds fans (local) have no idea who Alex Gonzalez really is… most players get to start with a clean slate when they come to the ‘Nati.
Hatteberg did his job and advanced the runner. AGOn on 3rd, 1 out.
Reds strike first. By which I mean scoring. I think the Rays already had a strike or two.
groundball to short but the runner scores. Phillips’ 8th RBI. Nice execution, boys. here comes Dunn with the bases empty…this is when he is most dangerous.
Chopper to 1B, inning over, Reds up 1-0.
The Rays tend to get it up when they play the Yanks. Their stadium fills up, mostly with Yankees fans (lots of NYers in FL). They steal bases left and right, and have more speedy outfielders than one team should be allowed to have.
TB was scrappy when Pineilla was their manager, because he is a good manager and will get the most out of a bad team… but now TB looks rather hopeless.
Didn’t Steinbrenner fire Pineillia once upon a times? Could be he took particular delight in beating his former team.. the revenge factor, if you will. But, really, I think he is just a good manager and will always win his share of games no matter how bad his team is.
So you think the Cubs will do well this year then, smartelf?
The thing about the Yanks is they think they should win every game just because they are who they are. They seem incredulous when a bad team beats them. The truth of the matter is the worst teams still win about 40% of their games and the best teams only win 60% of their games. Its a grueling marathon sport and you have to grind it out no matter how much you spend and no matter what your mystique may be.
Oh! I forgot that the D-Rays were Marc’s team. I’ll be intersted to hear what he has to say on the broadcast.
I don’t expect Pieniella to figure it out immediately. That team needs a lot of tweaking and he still doesn’t know what he has. It will take some time to make it “his team”… and furthermore the Chicago media is brutally critical and they will question all his moves, and he does make some unusual moves…so I don’t know if its a good fit. I like the Reds more than the Cubs and I think Vegas is insane to give the Cubs 4-1 odds to win the world series.
Hamilton just got his 17th hit of the spring by beating out an infield hit.
HE JUST MENTIONED SMART ELF! Did you hear it?
Baldelli catches Crosby’s would-be hit.
He said “We’ve heard from Smart Elf today. No name in his email address, just Smart Elf. I guess if you’re going to have an Elf it might as well be a smart one…” LOL! 😉
Robbed by Rocco. Given his injury issues, TB must be very nervous at the hard dive.
Steve said your name, smartelf! You’re a star!! 😎
I feel so special 😀
I sent him an e-mail, too, so be on the listen for that. I’ve got my fingers crossed!
It is SO beautiful here tonight. We’ve got windows open all over the house. I just heard thunder, but the temperature is just perfect.
Great night for baseball.
I’m literally leaving for Cincinnati (from Vegas) TONIGHT in just a few hours… and it won’t even be a shock in temperature change… you guys in the midwest warmed it up just for me. Again, I feel so special!
Leadoff double to Josh Paul.
This guy Edwin Jackson is pretty good.. he had HUGE potential as a Dodgers prospect be he never figured it out…so now he gets to find himself in Tampa Bay.
Encarnacion slaps the tag down (fielders choice) on an attempted SAC BUNT… ROss pounced on it and made the play.
It may be warm tonight, but I understand it’s getting cold again this weekend. Personally, I’m glad; I want to REALLY appreciate Sarasota when I get there. Less than two weeks to go now!!
Excellent play by Edwin, backhanded and throws to 2B. 2 outs.
Little Eddie had a part to play in the next out, as well. Nice.
I actually prefer cold weather.. just not freezing weather.. 50s and 60s is perfect… 70s is nice… 80s and up is ok, 100s is unacceptable which is why I leave vegas every summer.
Sounds like you’ve got a good plan, man.
Here is Arroyo leading things off in the Reds 3rd inning. Called strike 3.
Hey, that’s me!! 😀
THERE YA GO!!!
bottom of third still 1-0 good guys
1-2-3 inning for Edwin Jackson.
I’m doing the Amanda Dance. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
RHM!!!
man, Steve is a great guy. he pretty much read your whole email!
The crowd was probably booing because they ran out of prizes already. When I’ve been to the bingo games, they’re always totally freaking sold out and they run out of prizes in the third inning.
People LOVE bingo.
They mentioned you at RedZone:
Red Hot Mama, owner of a fine Reds blog in her own right, just got an e-mail read at length by Stewart.
Bronson K’s Delmon Young.
Tee-hee 😀
The only part of the e-mail that he didn’t read was when I said hi to him (to Steve).
Oh, and the URL. But I’ll take it! 😉
And at RR:
Steve’s reading
an e-mail from RHM. It’s a love letter to Marc Lancaster. ;)
Leadoff single for Phillips. This game is going FAST.
