The Rubber Match
Gotta make this quick, 'cuz I'm at work and about to go on a dept lunch.
C. Trent gives us the line-up:
Reds
Ryan Freel CF
Brandon Phillips 2B
Jeff Conine 1B
Ken Griffey Jr. RF
Alex Gonzalez SS
Juan Castro 3B
David Ross C
Norris Hopper LF
Kyle Lohse P
Hopper, eh? Interesting. And former Red Randy Keisler is going for the Cards. Last time I saw him, he was in a different Lou--Louisville.
Jason Isringhausen on for the Redbirds in the ninth…and it’s raining in the Lou, according to Trent.
Welcome back, scratcher
Not sure I get what you mean about Sunday
Conine flies to right. And we have a rain delay. Now I know what you mean about Sunday. LOL
Meeting done, headache in full effect.
How’s the game?
Well, glad you’re back, RHM, we need you for “Childish Rain Delay Amusement Part 2”
It’s 7-5, cardinals, with one out in the top of the ninth and Hamilton coming to the plate, and there’s a rain delay.
The Cardinals have 15 hits, offensive outburst only occur on Sundays this year.
I’m lacking anything amusing. I’m drawing a complete blank. Kind of a white-hot migraine kind of a blank.
When I was in the hall a moment ago, a guy who was previously my best friend turned around to avoid me. As far as I can tell, he’s mad because I gave him a hard time last week at an office happy hour about dating a 16-year old (he’s 37), but I don’t know that for sure because he won’t speak to me.
HMZ, you know it all. Can you explain what the heck is wrong with men?
(In the interest of full discloser, I should mention that I tried only once to apologize for embarrassing him. Now I, too, am not speaking to him because he ignored my apologetic text message. But he doesn’t know that, again, because he won’t speak to me.)
Oh, ok…I thought you were referring to the rain delay the other night, but that wasn’t a Sunday, was it? That was Tuesday. Guess I have my days mixed up here.
That’s been the things that’s surprised me about the Cardinals so far this year, is how they’ve had so many guys who haven’t been hitting (Kind of like the Reds!). If someone had said in January that on April 25 that the Cardinals would have two starting pitchers with higher batting averages than Pujols, Eckstein, Edmonds, Taguchi, Kennedy, and Spezio, I’d have questioned their sanity.
Again like the Reds, they’re a better hitting team than that. Thins will even out sooner or later for both clubs I’m sure.
If he’s 37 and dating a 16-year old, I think it’s obvious what’s wrong with him, RHM.
Geez, my typing is going to pot this afternoon. 🙁
Trent’s blog says it looked like they were getting ready to take the tarp off, but that was posted ten minutes ago.
He didn’t actually *date* her, he tried to justify. He dated her 19-year old sister. She was just making pointed comments in his presence about 16 being the age of concent in IN.
And apparently he found this attention from a high school sophomore with no self-esteem to be awesome enough to bring up at happy hour. Since he couldn’t actually bring her along.
I don’t know why he’s mad at me about it, though. He’s the creep.
It would be great if they could get the game going in time for my commute home. I could use some non-work things to occupy my mind.
Now he says the players are in the dugouts and the tarp is coming off
How does a tarp help? Doesn’t the rain water just fall on the ground anyway when you roll it up?
You know, I never paid that much attention to a grounds crew during a rain delay. Maybe they take squeegies and push the water that’s on the tarp off to one side before they roll it up. I don’t know. If I’m at the ballpark and it’s raining I go get something to eat and get out of the rain, so I’ve never stuck around to watch what those folks were doing.
3:39 Central Time – Players on the field, according to Trent. Yay!
My ride’s here; time to start the long commute home. I’ll check in when I get there.
In case I miss anyone, thanks for checking in on the game thread. Special thanks to HMZ for keeping me updated on the game. I would have been massively frustrated w/o you! 🙂
I got up to get some tea, and the game’s over.
Cool.
And it’s over. &-5 Cardinals, final score.
7-5, that is, not &-5. (How many runs are & runs?)
Trent says it took Izzy all of about two minutes to get those last two outs, bellyscratcher. So the Cardinals win the series, two games to one.
And I’m going to go make myself something to eat. Ladies, hope you have a safe and pleasant commute home!
From what Trent said, it sounds like Griffey’s chest pain is related to his diverticulitis.
Poor guy. That sucks.
Boy was I surprised to get down the five floors to the car and hear that the game was already over. I didn’t realize that there were only 2 outs left to go.
Oh well. But damn, the Reds shouldn’t be losing to the Cardinals.
