Should be about to get under way here.
Our division rivals are faring as follows:
The Pirates are leading the Dodgers, 4-0, with LA batting in the top of the sixth.
The Cardinals lead the Astros, 3-0, and are batting in the top of the fifth.
The Brewers lead Florida, 2-0, after three innings of play.
The Cubs lead Atlanta, 5-0, and are just coming to bat in the bottom of the third.
And Hopper flies to right to lead it off for the Reds.
Reds in the top of the first: Hopper F-8, Hatteberg F-8, Griffey BB, EE 5-3.
1-2-3 inning for belisle. Taveras K, Matsui grounder to Hatteberg, Holliday grounder to Edwin. Scoreless after one.
YAY! Gonzalez bunts his way on, Wise follows with a triple, and just like that the Reds have the lead.
Castro goes down hacking, but Narron puts the squeeze on and Moeller comes through, giving the reds a 2-0 lead.
Belisle not only singles to left, he steals second, and Hopper walks, but Hatteberg hits a comebacker to Lopez.
Two runs, three hits, no errors, two left on, and the Reds lead 2-0 in the middle of the second.
Pirates 4, Dodgers 3 in the seventh; Cardinals 4, Astros 1 in the sixth; Brewers 2, Marlins 0 in the fifth, and Cubs 6, Braves 0 in the fifth.
Rockies in the second: Helton grounds out to first (Yay!), Atkins homers to left, his fourth of the year (Boo!), Hawpe lines one at Castro (Yay!), and Torrealba lines one at Gonzalez (Yay!).
Reds, 3rd inning: Griffey, swinging K. EE singles. Gonzalez flies to center. Wise flies to center. Still 2-1.
Rockies, 3rd inning: Carroll, swinging K. Lopez, 1-3. taveras, bunt single. Matsui singles to left center but is gunned down trying to stretch it into a double. Still 2-1, good guys.
Castro leads off the Reds’ half of the 4th with a single to center and is forced at second on a grounder off the bat of Moeller – who is promptly bunted to second by Belisle. Hopper singles to center, and helps himself to second on the throw. Doesn’t matter, Hatteberg flies to left center. Reds 2, Rocks 1.
Narron’s already catching hell in ASBCR because of tonight’s lineup. With an off day tomorrow Dunn, Phillips, and Ross are getting two days off in a row (but Griffey isn’t) while Moeller, Wise, and Castro are playing.
And my feed just went down. Just great.
Backup source says the Rockies have tied it in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Atkins and Hawpe. Reds 2, Rocks 2.
OK, feed’s back: Holliday 6-3, Helton grounder to hatteberg, the two doubles by Atkins and Hawpe, Torrealba 6-3.
Reds so far in the fifth: Griffey F-8, EE singles to left, Gonzalez doubles, Wise walks. Bases are drunk with one out for Castro.
Sac Fly, error on Holliday, 4-2 Reds, and that’ll be all for Lopez.
Jorge Julio on for the Rockies.
Moeller flies to center and Belisle grounds out to Julio. Reds 4, Rocks 2.
The Red Hot Mama Out of Town Scoreboard:
Dodgers 5, Pirates 4 (Final)
Cardinals lead Houston, 6-5, and are still batting in the top of the tenth.
Brewers 3, Marlins 0 (Final)
Cubs 9, Braves 1 (8th)
Phillips in at second, Castro moves to short for the Reds. Carroll fouls out to EE. Steve Finley bats for Julio. My feed goes down again (BOO!). Backup source says the fifth inning ended with the Reds still leading, 4-2, and that Ramon Ramirez is on to start the sixth on the hill for the Rockies.
Hopper slides into second under the tag with a leadoff double off Ramirez, who enters with a 7.39 ERA that’s going to rise soon.
My feed comes back up (YAY!). Hatteberg Ks on a disputed strike three call. They want no part of Griffey and walk him intentionally. EE plates Hopper with a double (YAY!), Phillips follows with his tenth round-tripper of the year (three-run shot), and Ramirez’ ERA rises as predicted.
Wise, swinging K. Castro, F-8. Reds 8, Rocks 2. Definitely a YAY!
For the Rockies in the bottom of the sixth: Holliday singles. Helton flies to left. Atkins flies to center. Hawpe walks. Cardinals 8, Astros 6 (Final). Cubs 10, Braves 1 (Final). Torrealba singles to center, scoring Holliday and sending Hawpe to third (BOO!). Guy-I-never-heard-of named Ryan Spilborghs bats for Ramirez and flies to center. Reds 8, Rocks 4.
Tom Martin, the former Buffalo Bison, in to pitch for the Rockies. Moeller singles and Belisle bunts him over. Hopper singles, first and third with one out for Hatteberg, who’s 0-for-4.
Make that 0-for-5 as he fouls out to left. And Griffey fouls out to third. Reds are gone in the seventh but they lead it, 8-4.
Following the seventh inning stretch, Belisle gets Taveras and Matsui on grounders, then Holliday singles and with Helton due up and two guys warmed up in the pen I think that’ll do it for Belisle.
Yep, Coutlangus comes in to pitch to Helton…
…and walks him. BOO!
…and walks Atkins. Bases loaded for Hawpe.
Gets ahead of Hawpe 0-2, then walks in a run. BOO!
Narron out for a double-switch, putting Conine at first as he brings in Majewski to pitch to Torrealba.
And Majewski gets Torrealba to fly out to Griffey. 8-5, Reds after seven.
LaTroy Hawkins has a 5.91 ERA and opponents hitting .317 off of him so far this season, but he sets the Reds down 1-2-3 in the eighth. EE grounds out to first, Phillips goes down swinging, and Wise grounds out to first.
Now let’s see if the bullpen can get past the dreaded eighth inning or not.
Rockies 8th: Carroll singles. Baker bats for Hawkins and singles. Bunt single by Taveras, bases loaded with nobody out. Good thing we called Majewski up to fix the eighth-inning problem, Stanton couldn’t have done better himself.
Weathers will come in and try to pull the Reds’ feet out of the fire.
Matsui triples, tie game. BOO!
Holliday K, Helton walked intentionally, Atkins flies to center, Hawpe doubles and the Rockies take the lead, 9-8.
Torrealba K.
Unbelievable.
Brian Fuentes pitching for the Rockies. Castro doubles. Gets picked off second but Fuentes throws the ball into center field, Castro takes third on the error by Fuentes. Moeller flies to right but Castro doesn’t score. Conine singles and Castro does score, tie game. Hopper hits into a DP.
Reds 9, Rockies 9 as we head to the bottom of the ninth.
Weathers remains in the game. My feed goes down again for the third time in the same game.
Backup source says the Rockies pinch-hit for Fuentes (good) and Weathers got through the ninth (also good). We’re headed for extra innings. Isn’t this where we came in?
Manny Corpas pitching. Dunn singles for Weathers but Griffey hits into a DP and EE looks at strike three.
Santos on for the bottom of the tenth. Matsui singles, takes second on a throwing error by Santos. Holliday, swinging K. Helton is intentionally walked. Atkins singles, Matsui scores, and the bullpen has blown another game that the Reds should have won.
Bad bullpen. No biscuit.
I took a nap when reds were up 8-4 and when i woke up i saw the final was 10-9 and they lost , one name came to mind right away STORMY WEATHERS !!!!!
Majewski you bastard!
