Get Away Game Thread

The good news is that, win or lose, the Reds' next game will be in the Eastern Time Zone. If I have to watch the boys lose, I'd at least like to get a good night's sleep afterward.

Reds
Scott Hatteberg 1B
Juan Castro SS
Ken Griffey, Jr. RF
Brandon Phillips 2B
Adam Dunn LF
Edwin Encarnación 3B
Josh Hamilton CF
David Ross C
Kyel Lohse P

Cards
David Eckstein
Chris Duncan
Albert Pujols
Jim Edmonds
Scott Rolen
Juan Encarnacion
Adam Kennedy
Gary Bennett
Adam Wainwright

So the Cardinals are fielding two Adams tonight, which seems a little unnatural. But more or less unnatural than batting Castro second? Tough call.

Is the top of the first over already? I just put up he game thread post!

  2. Red Hot Mama says:

Hey, the bottom of the inning was just as fast. Though, admittedly, it might just have seemed fast because I’m playing Spider Solitaire on the laptop.

  3. Red Hot Mama says:

Eddie’s aboard. Slid headfirst into first base. Now he’s chatting with Pujols. It’s a good life for EdE.

  4. Red Hot Mama says:

OMG George Grande just brought up ARod. I couldn’t believe it, but then he started talking about something that happened on the field, and that seemed more in character. He did call ARod a “lightning rod,” which is pretty good all around.

  5. Red Hot Mama says:

Aw man. Let the stranding begin.

  6. It’s too hot to go to the game, plus there are going to be terrible storms.

  7. Red Hot Mama says:

I guess that makes you a fair weather fan. :hehe:

Glad you’re here, though. I was just passing the time building m boy’s Hot Wheels V-Drop that he got for his birthday. It’s a track that hangs from the top of a door that your Hot Wheels car flies down before knocking over the cardboard ring of fire that it’s supposed to go through.

  8. Boy, Loshe is getting up there in pitch count and it’s only the third.

  9. That sounds AWESOME!

  10. Red Hot Mama says:

That was wild: our feed was just screwed up. It looked like one of the techs was channel surfing without realizing that his boredom was being broadcast.

  11. Nice. 🙂

If this pace keeps up, you should be in bed at a reasonable hour.

  12. Oh great, Adam.

  13. Red Hot Mama says:

Ooh! Nick Lachey is being interviewed on the program!

That sounds sarcastic, but I’m oddly enchanted by Lachey. He may be the prettiest Reds fan.

Griffey homer! He’s good luck, too! ::swoon::

  14. Our guys are talking wistfully about what-might-have-been if Jr. didn’t have the injury issues. Too bad it’s Bonds chasing Aaron instead of him.

  15. Yikes. Wainwright is having a baaaaad night. Maybe he is better suited for 1 or 2 innings max.

  16. Red Hot Mama says:

Holy crap! It’s an EdE homer!

Nick Lachey can NEVER leave the broadcast booth. Especially in the button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up. ::double swoon::

Alas, the shoulda-woulda-coulda’s are the story of Griffey’s career. Did you see The Onion story about it? Like typical Onion stuff it was too long, but pretty much right on.

  17. Red Hot Mama says:

Rolen looks like he’s 15 years older than he is.

  18. Pujols has been the king of right-side pop-ups this year. At least that one went to the outfield.

  19. Loshe has 53 pitches through 4 – how many will it take for him to be lifted for the bullpen?

  20. Red Hot Mama says:

Ooh, that’s a good question. It’s so hard to predict Jerry Narron. I expect he’ll come out about 1 pitch too late. He’ll probably be replaced by Mike Stanton.

  21. Oh, Wainwright is at 68 after that out. Yikes. I hope he gets through the 7th.

  22. Red Hot Mama says:

I can’t believe that Castro is at the top of this order. He’s notoriously poor at the plate. That’s been the case all along: they even said when they brought him aboard that it was just to improve the defense.

The guy has one night with two doubles and all hell breaks loose.

  23. Red Hot Mama says:

I think that your team would have a serious problem with the bullpen, what with all the relievers now being in the rotation.

What the heck is up with Ryan Franklin, though? And what kind of freaking magic did your pitching coach use on him?

As horrible as the Reds pitching as been for so long, I think they need to poach another team’s pitching coach. It would be money well-spent.

  24. I dunno what’s going on with Franklin. I know he wants to start, but he’s been so good in the pen LaRussa doesn’t want to move him. So now we have Wellemeyer. I bet Franklin makes a couple starts though. Dave Duncan’s just a genius.

  25. Red Hot Mama says:

I can’t even believe that that sentence is about was about Franklin.

  26. Red Hot Mama says:

What’s irritating about this is that the Reds will probably win this game–not surprising, they’ve lost their last three–and everyone will be all like [em]maybe they’re going to turn the corner now[/em] or [em]maybe we don’t need to fire Narron after all[/em] or [em]maybe Bronson’s music career isn’t the best thing going on in our rotation[/em].

  27. BubbaFan says:

So…whatta ya think about Love Shack being DFA’d? The Reds now have two vacant spots on the 40-man roster. One is presumably for Homer Bailey, but what’s the other one for? The other PTBNL from the Deno deal? A trade (maybe Dunn)?

  28. Red Hot Mama says:

All right. It’s about time Dunn got involved in the fight against prostate cancer.

I’m still behind from my vacation and haven’t been paying close attention to the roster. But gosh, a trade for Dunn would be huge. What could they possibly get that would be good enough to justify a deal like that to the fans?

That would definitely mean rebuilding year. What a depressing thought, though at least something would be happening.

  29. Oh, Dunn hit a home run, eh? Blah.

  30. Red Hot Mama says:

Even though the Reds score most of their runs on homers, it still feels like it’s been a while since they’ve gotten out the long balls. Maybe the charity angle is an inspiration. What about the charity for the benefit of Reds’ fans enjoyment of the game?

Woo! Doubled off first from center. Don’t challenge Hamilton’s arm.

  31. I think the TV is about to be commandeered for Wii.

  32. I’ll follow online

  33. BubbaFan says:

The empty roster spot does suggest some kind of move is in the works. Shack wasn’t so awful that they’d expose him to waivers and risk losing him for no reason. (He did clear waivers and will continue pitching for the Bats, though I suspect this move means he’ll leave the Reds organization as a minor league free agent at the end of the season.)

But the rest of it is just rumor. Some think it’s Dunn because Narron said Hopper would play in all three games this weekend. Just wild speculation, though.

  34. Red Hot Mama says:

You have a Wii but only one t.v.? That’s priorities. 🙂

  35. We’ve got another in the bedroom, but I don’t want to take my computer in there.

I will say that the Madden 07 soundtrack SUCKS. I’m gonna turn the game on the radio.

  36. Red Hot Mama says:

Uh-oh; something just got through. It’s not even the eighth inning yet.

  37. Man. I hate getting shut out!

  38. Red Hot Mama says:

As I alluded to a comment ago, hang in there for the eighth. That’s the baaaad inning.

  39. Eh, the Cards seem to have taken the night off.

  40. BubbaFan says:

But now we have McBeth. He pitched a good 8th yesterday.

  41. Red Hot Mama says:

I wonder whether we’ll see McBeth in the eighth tonight. Like I said, Narron is so hard to predict.

  42. McBeth had no record and no ERA last night, is he brand new?

  43. BubbaFan says:

McBeth is the guy we got from Oakland for Denorfia. He was called up once, and never used. He was called up again, and finally got took the mound for the first time yesterday. Narron didn’t want to put him in unless we had a big lead. Which meant his butt was glued to the bench. 😛

I think they’ll use him tonight, because he’ll probably be going back to Louisville tomorrow to make room for Bailey.

  44. Red Hot Mama says:

Sort of. It feels like he’s been with the team forever, but Narron was saving him for a special occasion. He did well, so we’re hopeful that he’ll get the call more frequently now, but who knows. Livingston was up with the team and had a great start before being sent back down.

  45. If it was Yadi back there, it would have been a stike ’em out, throw ’em out. 🙁

Encarnacion needs a triple for the cycle….

  46. Well, he’s got a big lead now. Yuck.
