September Call-Ups
Thanks to BubbaFan for the tip:
The Bats' last game is over (Bats won, 8-2) so the Sept. callups were announced:
Todd Coffey, RP
Kirk Saarloos, RP
Brad Salmon, RP
Buck Coats, OF
Ryan Hanigan, C
Joey Votto, 1B
May they make all the difference.
Buck Coats’ real first name is apparently…Buck. It’s not a nickname.
If it really says “Buck” on his birth certificate, then I have to concede: he’s got a cooler baseball name than “Bubba Crosby.”
Courtesy of Trent: Wayne Krivsky said Jay Bruce had won Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year award for this season.
TRADED: Victor Santos to the Orioles for cash. No, not David Cash, just plain cash, as in, “More dollars for the Reds to waste on guys like Eric Milton.”
SUSPENDED: C Ryan Jorgensen, for 50 games for violating MLB’s Joint
Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
No wonder Jorgensen wasn’t one of the September call-ups.
Coats could turn out to be another super utility player like Keppinger. Or even Freel – you look at his numbers in the minors and it looks like he can swipe a bag. And so far he’s played every position except pitcher, catcher, and first base.
