Game Thread: Opening Day
Hanging out online during games with the Cards to make jabs at Tony LaRussa’s sunglasses and Albert Pujols’ superiority complex is an age-old tradition here at RHM. But never have we had the opportunity to poke Opening Day fun at the Redbirds. The only thing that could make this any better would be if Jim Edmonds were still hanging around in a half-shirt.
Don’t know if anyone else is likely to show up, seeing as all of Cincy is probably downtown right now and Bellyscratcher will be relishing the parental joy of baby’s first Opening Day, but you can check out my one-sided commentary after the fact, in case, for some reason, you can’t remember any parts of it.
Did everyone get a chance to bean some Cardinals today? It’s the kind of joy that Flash provides that real life just can’t.
To give you an idea of how long this off-season has been…I can’t remember what channel FSN is on my satellite system.
Ooh, Star Trek: Enterprise is on HDN
Found it! 661. But there’s nothing on yet. If they pull the same crap they pulled with the Vegas game the other day, my head might explode.
Cardinals Live is on on FSMW on 671 but only the audio is on the Reds channel. Technical difficulties?
Good luck this year, lady!
Thanks, Jeff. Fortunately, the 2010 Reds are only subject to the whims of Dusty Baker and the ever-present injury bug. They don’t have to contend with the fickle dice the pretend ’77 team does!
Didn’t sound like a super-positive reception for Baker’s introduction.
It may just be me, but I’d rather take my chances with the dice than the whim of Dusty.
Maybe you ought to help me with my pretend ’77 line-up, RM. As much talent as I have, I’m stuck in the middle of the pack.
Aw, how nice that George Grande is throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. I must say that Johnny Bench seems like overkill to catch his heat.
Rob Butcher is wearing a suit, complete with red rose on his lapel. He looks like he’s got a date to the prom after the game.
Pitch 1: strike!
Boo-ya! Love seeing Harang strike a guy out.
Love it even more to see him strike out the first two batters of the game. Not to jinx it, but even fate can’t take those first two away.
Hello!! Kid’s asleep for 20 more minutes!
Well, so Pujols gets the solo shot. If that’s the worst that happens, you’re doing OK.
Huh, Pujols is balding. How old does he say he is again?
All right, Reds turn to bat. Let’s see some base clogging!
C’mon Dickerson, what are you doing swinging at that? Were you trying to protect your knee?
Honestly, how can anyone look at Cabrera and say, “yes, that’s exactly who should be hitting second!”
Yadi appears to have caught something from the American League, he’s appealing a lot.
Votto gets the hitting started. It wasn’t a homer like Pujols’, but it still rocks. Phillips’ turn to clog a base.
BP works a full count and fouls one off. Love getting Carp’s pitch count up, even if he grounds out to second.
Walking Rasmus? I don’t like that. If you’re going to do that, save it for that jerk Pujols.
Sacrificed Rasmus over. C’mon Harang: make that a wasted out!
What the hell does Yadi have in his mouth? Whatever it was, his out got Rasmus to third.
Bellyscratcher! Welcome back. Sorry you were blocked for a minute there. I hope you haven’t given up on us.
Hey, Ms. Scratcher,
How’s the little one enjoying her first Opening Day?
And, to reach back too far for a joke of this caliber, I personally don’t find Yadi very appealing at all.
The Reds got Rolen; the Cards got LaRue. Who got the better end of this situation?
She’s liking it so far – she gets to watch TV and nothing is so enchanting as moving lights.
George Grande is in the broadcast booth. I’ll miss him this year.
It’s good for her brain.
Bit of a pitcher’s duel we’ve go going so far, eh?
Of course he caught it. He’s Votto! Love to see the bases empty again for Pujols.
George Grande is a guest in the booth…will he call him Prince Albert?
Nope, didn’t have time before he flied himself out 🙂
At least they aren’t playing the Pirates and we’re hearing “the Buccos” 20 times a broadcast.
Seems likely that this is Harang’s last Opening Day with the Reds. I wonder if it’s Carp’s too.
Oh, nope. The CTS looked it up and he’s on contract through next year with an option for 2012. Of course, I guess he could still get injured. Either way, I’ll miss this recurring match-up. They’re the highlight of the season.
Dude, what’s up with this Rasmus dude?
Dude.
Harang plunks Yadi. Back it up, kid!
WHY did Rolen cut that off? Saboteur!
Was it really worth having Carpenter bunt to move over the trailing runner? Maybe it was more of a “don’t let Carp end the inning with a DP” kind of play. Not much you could do with Yadi in the lead anyway.
Booo-Yaaaa! Votto homer!
See, *our* first baseman is awesome too. AND he’s hot. AND he’s really 26.
All right, Rolen. Way to throw people off the trail of you being a double agent!
Once through the line-up and the offense is coming alive. Even the mighty Pujols couldn’t get to that one!
Damn, I was fooled by the hit by Hernandez. I thought we were looking at the lead.
Alas, not. Not yet.
Plus, the bonus: by not having to pinch hit for Harang, we aren’t subjected to Mike Lincoln yet.
Bob Castellini is on the broadcast. We haven’t heard much from him lately. Which I’m happy about if it means he isn’t champing at the bit to extend Baker.
Harang hit another guy? He’s got some rage issues to deal with.
I believe Ludwick enjoys GAB.
It *is* a nice park. You guys ought to make a trip out, once it’s a little warmer.
Yes we should!
The Cards will be in town again 5/14-5/16
Reds go out there 9/3-9/5.
Who is this Freese character? It’s the only name I don’t recognize.
