Last Game
The Reds dropped their game against the Marlins yesterday, 5-3. Paul Janish was the offensive star, although it wasn’t quite enough for the win. On the plus side, the offense did manage to save the tired bullpen from having to work the bottom of the 9th inning.
Next Game
The Reds try one final time to take the 4-game series from the Marlins when they send Aaron Harang to the mound. Florida counters with Josh Johnson. Game-time is again at 7:10pm EDT, and FSN-OH and 700 WLW both carry it.
Miscellaneous Roster Items
The Reds cut Aaron Miles and Wladimir Balentien 10 days ago. And today was the day the Reds had to deal with them. The Reds released Miles and sent Balentien down to Louisville.
In other roster news, Drew Stubbs is nursing a sore back and will miss a few starts. And in the minors, Bill Bray, the last player standing from Wayne Krivsky’s infamous Trade, had a setback in his attempt to come back from Tommy John surgery.

With the Reds receiving no interest in Aaron Miles, they are on the hook for his $2.7 million dollar salary.

It was a night when the Cincinnati Reds had a tired bullpen. After two straight nights of extra inning baseball, the Reds were hoping for a longer start from Homer Bailey.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. It took Homer 115 pitches to go 5 1/3 innings. He allowed 5 runs and walked 4. Bailey had been brilliant at the end of 2009, and has many hoping that he may have actually learned a thing or two about pitching. So far, though, that hasn’t carried over into this season. His walks are up again, and he seems to have recaptured the ability to turn an 0-2 count into a full one.
There was no offensive heroics to rescue the starter this time, though. The Reds managed just 5 hits and 3 runs. The highlight of the game came in the 7th when Paul Janish, finally getting some playing time, hit a two-run home run to narrow the deficit to 2. I’m optimistic that this will make Dusty Baker think about possibly starting Janish over Orlando Cabrera more. However, since the Reds still lost, I’m afraid that’s all Baker will remember.
Good, game, Paul. I look forward to seeing you again in another week or two.

Secaucus, N.J., April 14, 2010 – Fans will get an inside look at pregame activities as MLB Network uses its Ballpark Cam system to produce Batting Practice, a 30-minute show featuring live footage from ballparks around Major League Baseball. MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger and Harold Reynolds will host the debut program on Friday, April 16 at 5:30 p.m. ET and take viewers inside batting practice to watch and analyze position players warming up in batting cages and on the field. The show will also include live interviews on Ballpark Cam with players, managers, coaches and announcers.
MLB Network’s high-definition Ballpark Cam system is robotically controlled from MLB Network’s studios in Secaucus, New Jersey, and cameras are currently installed in the dugout and centerfield locations at 13 MLB ballparks. The Ballpark Cams, used regularly for updates and pregame and post-game interviews within MLB Tonight, MLB Network’s live, nightly studio show, are being installed in remaining MLB ballparks throughout the 2010 season.
Batting Practice will air regularly on weeknights at 5:30 p.m. ET throughout the 2010 Championship Season, following MLB Network’s simulcast of MLB.com’s Fantasy 411 at 5:00 p.m. ET. MLB Tonight, the signature program of MLB Network during the regular season, airs live beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET until the final MLB game of the night ends each Monday through Friday, featuring live look-ins of games in progress, updates, highlights, reporting and analysis.

Last Game
The Reds continued to show the world that they like baseball so much, they’ll take on extras without fear. The Reds batters picked up the slack for Bronson Arroyo’s crappy start and won it in the 11th.
Next Game
The Reds have guaranteed a tie of the series with the Marlins. They send out Homer Bailey for the series win against Chris Volstad today at 7:10pm EDT. The game is available on FSN-OH and 700 WLW.
Tell Us What You Really Think, Thom
In the opening game against the Marlins, Thom Brenneman was talking during a commercial break and saying what all of us think whenever Mike Lincoln enters the game, “This game’s about to go into the shitter.” Unfortunately for him, his mic was on, and Redleg Nation has the video. Despite the “indecency”, I have a feeling that Thom will outlast Lincoln.

It was bound to happen. After an improbable number of good starts in a row–with an ERA of 2.08 over his last 19 starts–Bad-rroyo finally made his return.
Yes, Bronson Arroyo was bad last night. It wasn’t Bad-rroyo’s triumphant return, though, because, for the second night in a row, the Reds won in extra innings. Arroyo allowed 5 runs in 6 innings, all earned.
Despite the crappy starting pitching, things were actually looking good for the Reds. The offense had two 3-run innings, thanks to home runs from Jonny Gomes and Ryan Hanigan. Then the bullpen had a hiccup.
Logan Ondrusek started the 8th inning looking strong, despite his comical tallness. He struck out the first two Marlins, but then let things fall apart as the game was quickly tied on a Cody Ross homer.
But the rest of the bullpen didn’t give up, and neither did the Reds’ offense. The relievers never allowed another run, and Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips drove in a couple in the top of the 11th to give the Reds the lead. Francisco Cordero finished the game for the save.
The Reds are on a bit of a hot streak, having won 3 in a row and 5 of their last 6. They are in second place, 1/2 games behind the St. Louis Cardinals.
