Live blog: Reds v Cards – game 2
I’m a little late starting the live blog today–I got out of work late, then traffic was bad, and that just threw off everything for the rest of the night. Plus, Zeldink was busy writing up that bit about Brandon Phillips new contract. But I’m here now, and wearing entirely different clothes than yesterday. And so far, it’s working: only one home run allowed in the first inning this time!
Damn those Cardinals
- Jay, CF
- Beltran, RF
- Holiday, LF
- Berkman, 1B
- Freese, 3B
- Molina, C
- Descalso, 2B
- Greene, SS
- Lohse, P
And Your Cin…Cinnati Reds
- Harris, 2B
- Cozart, SS
- Votto, 1B
- Rolen, 3B
- Bruce,RF
- Heisey, LF
- Stubbs, CF
- Mesoraco, C
- Leake, P
Two double plays ended the tops of the first two innings. Here in the bottom of the second, Jay Bruce is on second with one out, so already this is looking like a much different game than yesterday.
Thom says that there are three undefeated teams so far this season: the Tigers, the Mets, and the Diamondbacks.
What is this bizzaroland?
With two outs and Bruce still on second, the Cards are walking Mesoraco to get to Leake. This seems like a weird move to me. Not only is Leake a decent hitter, but worst case scenario they’re going to bring up the leadoff guy in the next inning.
Well, it’s the worst case scenario. I still can’t say it was a good idea, though.
No need for a DP to end the top of the third: Leake took ’em out 1-2-3.
Not that Baker is free from weird decisions: why is Harris leading off, pray tell? I have to wonder whether Leake wouldn’t be better.
I love that they’re pushing the OBP. Thom still sounds a little awkward talking about it, but that will pass with practice. And Thom certainly practices talking a lot.
Boy, those folks in the stands look cold. Leake should light up those smoke stacks for them. When I was in the stadium, I could swear I could feel the heat coming off them.
Yadi hits a double. Booo.
Well, I said boo, but at least something happened. This game is sort of super-boring.
Boooooooooooooooo-ring.
I wonder if this game would be more interesting if the managers played. Of course, Matheny has an age advantage on Baker in hand-to-hand combat.
Hey! Something interesting happened! Nice catch, Mesoraco. He caught Lohse’s popped up bunt attempt in the top of the fifth.
I like Mike Leake’s hair. The curliness makes it much cuter than Bronson Arroyo’s. Of course, Leake might not be going for “cute.”
Cozart gets a triple to start off the bottom of the sixth. Man, there have been a lot of triples this season so far.
Let’s go Joey!
Joey’s sac fly brings in a run. Adequate!
Ooh! Ooh! Bruce gets a hit! Already two outs in the inning, though. These runs are kind of expensive. The Reds need a two-for-one coupon or something.
Sam LeCure comes in to the game. Leake had a pretty good outing, really. It’s not his fault the offense has been lulled to sleep by friggin’ Lohse.
I got the kid to bed. So what’d I miss?
Boy-oh-boy is this a snooze-fest, and it’s almost bed time, so let’s take a quick look at tomorrow’s game:
Game 3 of the series with the Cardinals
12:35 p.m.
Reds’ Starter: Johnny Cueto, RHP (1-0)
Cards’ Starter: Jaime Garcia, LHP (1-0)
Maybe the guys have a chance of taking this one. Sweet dreams, everyone!
Well, hello!
This just got more interesting, if you’re still around. 🙂
Hiya! I don’t have much to add, since I missed most of the game. But, um, how are the Reds going to pay for Votto and Phillips?
Haven’t you heard? There’s a Votto cereal now. That should cover it, right?
Well, that’s the game. Win or lose, I hope there’s a bunch of runs tomorrow. No t.v. coverage, so I’ll be “watching” on Game Day, and I’d prefer not to constantly wonder if it’s loading or whether just nothing is happening.
Depends on how much the little prizes inside cost, I guess. But that’s really a missed opportunity for the Cardinals – they should have had a Pujols cereal.
It’s basically repackaged cheerios (they’re called “Vott-Os”) but it would have been coolers if it were little golden gloves and maple leaves.
I would totally buy that – it would be adorable!
They’ve also upped the price of beer to $8. That $.50 per beer could go a long way if people keep drinking as heavily as they were doing in the first two games of the season.
Beer’s only $8? Oh for the heady days of 2007!
Ok, the post game show is putting me to sleep. I’ll try to get on via my phone tomorrow!
Hopefully I’ll see you there. I have a lunch date (second-to-last day on the job and all) but I should be around for part of it.
