#RedsNation IRC Channel

Last week I was checking out a list on somebody's website of online chat rooms related to baseball teams, and there wasn't one for the Reds.
I thought that was bogus, so I created one. On the IRC network IRC-GLOBAL there is now a channel called #RedsNation. You can connect to the network using server irc.proxemic.net OR us.irc-global.org on ports 6661-6669, then of course just /join the channel #RedsNation. (It's not case sensitive, you can type /join #redsnation and you'll get there)
For the IRC savvy, IRC-GLOBAL is brand new. It's running unreal 3.2.4 ircd, and services are anope 1.17.14. The IRCops are:

IRC? Wasn’t that where I used to get hit on by sleezy college students when I was 15?

Well, the channel’s there, anyway, feel free to use it, that’s what it’s there for. Might provide a handy way to hook up with other bloggers for chatting during a game or whatever. There are ways of dealing with inappropriate behavior. Especially when the channel founder is an IRCop and happens to be on your crack hard facts staff.

Seriously, it’s been years. What’s IRC?
Internet Relay Chat. It’s a multi-user, multi-channel chatting system where you sit in front of your ‘puter and talk by typing messages back and forth with another person, or groups of people, in real time. Like the way pretty much everything works on the internet, you run a client program on your ‘puter – Ircle or Snak are popular ones for a Mac, for a PC the most popular is mIRC – and that lets you connect to a server and start joining existing channels or creating your own channels.
The most popular client programs are shareware in the $20-$25 range. There are freeware ones available for cheapskates <grin>, and that’s the only cost for using IRC. If you use a freeware client program (or are naughty and use the shareware ones without paying for them) it costs nothing at all. Totally free realtime chat.
