Reds v Astros: why do we keep doing this to ourselves?
The Reds have gotten spanked by the Astros, it's Milton of all people going tonight, we're up against Wandy, and yet I'm watching. I'll be in and out as I make the car-out-of-a-cardboard-box that my son's school is requiring he have by Thursday.
C. Trent has the line-ups:
Reds
Ryan Freel cf
Brandon Phillips 2b
Ken Griffey, Jr. rf
Jeff Conine 1b
Alex Gonzales ss
Adam Dunn lf
Edwin Encarnación 3b
David Ross c
Eric Milton p
Astros
Biggio 2b
Ensberg 3b
Berkman 1b
Lee lf
Lane rf
Pence cf
Everett ss
Ausmus c
Rodriguez p
I can’t believe it took Milton two whole outs before he gave up a homer.
Milton is majorly stinking through two innings, walking a guy in the first and then giving up the 2-run dinger. In the second, EdE made a mental mistake that allowed one of Milton’s runners to score.
One of these two players will pay for his poor performance.
I love to see Milton hitting.
Griffey hits a homer and…what’s this? A Reds [em]lead[/em]??
Never give up. In baseball, it’s never too late!
Man, I hate that the Astros keep getting their runs two at a time.
And I really hate that Milton can no longer get the win. Not that he’s pitched so great, but it would have been nice for the team to throw him a bone. Keep him motivated.
What in the hell is Coffey doing in this game? How many freaking days does this guy have to work?
I have the sneaking suspicion that this is Todd’s audition. If he sucks tonight and gets sent down, Narron can send him down feeling justified. Never mind that he’s been horribly misused.
Ugh. I hope I’m wrong.
At least Coffey isn’t sucking so far.
AAAAAAAAH! WHY IS COFFEY IN AGAIN!
This is his SIXTH appearance this month. That’s no days off and 8 games. Perhaps the fact that he never gets to rest has something to do with his suckiness.
Damn, I hate Narron.
Qualls in for the Astros. I’m in favor of this, despite EdE grounding out to third.
Nice play by little Eddie, by the way. Gotta recognize.
Big sigh as Weathers allows another run; a screamer down the third base line, where Freel wasn’t able to get to it just moments after EdE made a fantastic diving play at the same position.
Never too late. C’mon, Reds!
Oh. Well. That was anticlimactic.
Nice homer by Phillips, though. Without Weathers’ contribution, we’d be in the 10th right now.
Crap. That looked low to me. 😛
Thanks for hanging in there and keeping the faith, BubbaFan. What would we do without your positivity? 😉
Yeah, we might do something stupid, like call for Narron to be fired.
Oh, wait…
I meant what would the game thread do without BF to keep up the positivity. There’s only so many “Narron sucks” posts you can write…
…or are there?
Your point is well taken, RHM. Things did seem to be more fun when the central theme was “Whack A Cub” rather than “Whack The Manager” – and while both still seem to be excellent ideas…
It’s baseball.
It’s a game.
It’s supposed to be fun.
It’s May 11.
I feel like a nut posting in a game thread when the game was three days ago, but it’s the perfect setting in which to say: This ain’t over yet.
On May 11, 2005, the Astros were in last place in the NL Central.
They lost on May 11. And on May 12. And on May 13. Then they won three in a row – and then they went on a seven-game losing streak.
After that they went a league-best 74-43 and wound up playing in the World Series.
This ain’t over yet.
