  1. Red Hot Mama says:

It’s never good to see the Astros come up with a couple runs in the first.

  2. Red Hot Mama says:

I mean three. And the bases are loaded with just one out. Milton isn’t going to last long, though I give at least some of the blame to Alex Gonzalez. Where’s that superlative defense he’s supposed to have?

  3. Red Hot Mama says:

Are we going up against Wandy tonight? That Wandy always has our number.

  4. KC2HMZ says:

Ohhh, boy, here we go again. Gonna be one of those Milton nights. 🙁

  5. KC2HMZ says:

FWIW, Current averages for Astros per AP:

    Biggio .255
    Ensberg .243
    Berkman .264
    Lee .276
    Lane .227
    Pence .294
    Everett .212
    Ausmus .297
    Rodriguez .111

  6. KC2HMZ says:

And the Astros now lead 4-1.

  7. Red Hot Mama says:

What’d I miss for The Office? Oh, the Astros have only scored one more. That’s good at least.

It’s disheartening for the Reds to be losing to this Astros team. They really are not very good.

  8. KC2HMZ says:

You called it about Wandy, RHM, he struck out the side swinging in the fifth.

  9. KC2HMZ says:

This team STILL strikes out way too much.

  10. Red Hot Mama says:

    Amen to that.

All right! Ross makes contact and brings in Dunn. Yippee!

  11. KC2HMZ says:

You know your team’s in an offensive funk when the guy they send to the plate as a pinch-hitter to represent the potential tying run in the seventh inning is batting .120

  12. Red Hot Mama says:

What is Wandy even short for? Wandrew? Wandrace? Wandrelle?

  13. KC2HMZ says:

Let’s get Salmon in there, he’s about due to pick up his first major league win. 😉

  14. Red Hot Mama says:

They should have left Milton in to hit…what they need in his case is a pinch pitcher.

  15. KC2HMZ says:

According to the Astros’ website, it’s his given name – Wandy Fulton Rodriguez

  16. KC2HMZ says:

Might need a pinch-pitcher for Cofeey too by the look of things

  17. KC2HMZ says:

Coffey. Sorry for the typos, I’m doing three things at once here.

  18. KC2HMZ says:

Cool, 6-3 DP gets the Reds out of it.

  19. Red Hot Mama says:

Don’t worry about the typos, man. I hardly ever make fun of people’s typos. 😛

Come on, Freel. We need a baserunner!

  20. KC2HMZ says:

And the guy with three first names is now in right field for the Astros. 😀

  21. Red Hot Mama says:

A walk will do. Keep it going Phillips.

Top of the eighth and the Reds behind but still within striking distance. Now is the time we expect our boys to do nothing in particular. Hope for turning over a new leaf?

    Maybe so. Nice triple, Brandon!

  22. KC2HMZ says:

Cool, they’re teeing off on Qualls, who is 0-2 against Cinci for his career and seems to be trying hard to make it 0-3.

  23. Red Hot Mama says:

All right! Griffey brings in the tying run!

    Thems the Reds I like–but don’t usually get–to see!

And now Griffey’s stealing bases? Have I slipped into an alternate dimension?

  24. KC2HMZ says:

    TIE ballgame!

    Git that suckah!

  25. KC2HMZ says:

“Yay Griffey!” – isn’t this where we came in?

  26. Red Hot Mama says:

That was Griffey’s first SB since April 18, 2004.

  27. Zeldink says:

    You know what this means?

Milton won’t get the loss! 😉

  28. Red Hot Mama says:

Not Gonzalez! What will we do without his bat??

  29. Red Hot Mama says:

Not that I’m complaining, but why is Qualls still pitching?

  30. Zeldink says:

    That’s a timely steal. Griffey had 1 in 2004, 1 in 2003, 1 in 2002, 2 in 2001, and 6 in 2000.

Maybe he’ll have a career year in steals for the Reds!

  31. KC2HMZ says:

Actually, I’m worried right now because as things currently stand, Coffey is the winning pitcher. RHM, you seem to have karma figured out better than I do. Does this hold up or not?

  32. Red Hot Mama says:

What makes Griffey even *think* to steal when he hasn’t done it in three years, and even then, hardly ever? Is Dunner giving him a hard time about his lack of SBs?

Coffey’s all sorts of good karma. Karma needs to make up for his geekiness.

  33. KC2HMZ says:

I wonder if that steal has something to do with how Griffey and Dunn are always razzing each other about their home runs…because Dunn has, like, six steals this year. Maybe he razzed Griffey about that, so Ken went out and swiped a base?

  34. Zeldink says:

    Boo Stanton! Get somebody out!

  35. Red Hot Mama says:

That’s a good kind of razzing–so long as Griffey doesn’t get hurt.

C’mon Stanton. Don’t make us relegate you to pick-off duty!

  36. KC2HMZ says:

Demmit Narron! Why did he take Coffey out?

We have the stupidest manager in baseball.

  37. Red Hot Mama says:

    :O
How much do I hate the bullpen? So much.

  38. Red Hot Mama says:

Narron’s going to be missing some games for his daughter’s graduation. If the Reds win while he’s gone, I’m getting on the Bucky-Dent-for-Manager bandwagon.

  39. Zeldink says:

I forgot it was the 8th inning.

  40. KC2HMZ says:

There was no reason for Coffey to have to come out. It would not have been his second time facing Everett, and he only threw 17 pitches.

  41. KC2HMZ says:

Adam Everett’s career numbers vs. Coffey: 1-for-4 with 2K.

  42. Zeldink says:

Attempting to figure out Jerry Narron’s thought processes concerning bullpen decisions leads to madness. There’s no rhyme or reason to it.

I’ll be watching with interest the games that Narron’s away to see how B. F. Dent manages the bullpen.

  43. KC2HMZ says:

    Final: Pittsburgh 4, Milwaukee 2.

  44. Zeldink says:

I thought Freel had already struck out! Very nice to see him get a hit.

No outs with two on in the ninth. Can the offense overcome the bullpen’s and the manager’s failings?

  45. Red Hot Mama says:

Pittsburgh over Milwaukee. As unimpressed as I’ve been with the play from every single team in the NLC, I am impressed with how close to each other they seem to be.

  46. KC2HMZ says:

Yeah, RHM, Zeldink, you guys are right. Maybe while Narron’s away they’ll get to see what the team can do when they don’t have their own manager cutting their throats in the late innings, and something will get done about it.

OK, here we go, three-run dinger by griffey to win it.

  47. Red Hot Mama says:

Ugh. I’m ill. Did I stay up until 11 for THAT?

  48. Zeldink says:

Ugh. I guess not. Maybe some time soon the Reds won’t have to be playing against their own manager.

Yeah, I know. I can dream.

  49. KC2HMZ says:

Nope, DP, and this one belongs to the Astros.

That’s one reason this business with Narron mishandling the bullpen is so frustrating to me, RHM. The way the division is the Reds could easily be in first place, despite not having hit for most of April. They just lost a game they should have won, and would have gained a game on the Brewers. 🙁

BTW, they changed the date for retiring Concepcion’s number so if anybody was going to get tickets for that game, double-check the date first.

  50. KC2HMZ says:

That Eric Milton poll is liable to be valid through July.
