The Reds outlasted the Braves on Saturday, winning 8-13 in Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida. Red Hot Mama, as an uncredentialed member of the online media, has the photos to prove it.
Ken Griffey Jr and son
Before the game, Ken Griffey, Jr. was seen on the field with his son, undoubtedly showing him how easy it is to be a baseball superstar.

Bruce, Keppinger, Dunn, and Griffey chatting with the enemy
Here we have some Jeff Keppinger, Adam Dunn, and Griffey chatting up a few Braves. Only Keppinger is doing the Hokey-Pokey.

Norris Hopper jogging out to start stretching
Here’s Norris Hopper getting ready to start in center field. Man, looking at this picture, you’d think the Crack Technical Staff was actually standing on the field. Actually, we were rocking second-level seats in section 115, a relatively nice (but not professional or anything) digital camera, and some mad photographizing skills from the CTS.

Johnny Cueto, Juan Castro, and Edinson Volquez
Johnny Cueto, Juan Castro, and Edinson Volquez appeared on the field together, walking to the dugout. None of them would actually play that day, but they looked good.

Edwin Encarnacion and Billy Hatcher
Edwin Encarnación took the field while chatting with Billy Hatcher.

Javier Valentin at bat
Word has it that David Ross is injured with the dreaded “day-to-day” status, which will certainly mean more playing time for Javy and probably mean three catchers on the roster. This could spell good things for Paul Bako.

Brandon Phillips safe at third base
Now the game is really getting going. Brandon Phillips was safe at third.

Dunn giving a high five
Apparently Phillips was an inspiration for picture-taking, because here he is at a later at-bat, getting congratulations from Dunn on his homer.

Scouts with speed guns
You can always tell where the scouts sit in the stadium. It’s right in front of the players’ wives.

Tom Shearn pitching
And, finally, a photo of Tom Shearn. He pitched the last inning of the game allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. He also struck out one.

So, there you go. Tomorrow, pictures from Game 9: The Heat in St. Pete.

Terrific photos. What kind of camera do you have?

And yikes, Griffey’s kid is big. Seems like you turn around for a moment, and they’re grown up.

It’s a Canon PowerShot S2 IS. It’s the same camera we had for ST last year, but the CTS’s photo-taking skills have improved dramatically since then.

That’s the same thing we said about the younger Griffey. They really do grow up fast.

Thanks. I’ve heard good things about the Powershot line. Good zoom on that model.

My dad is a photo buff, but he’s in the market for a point and shoot camera now. He’s looking forward to traveling in his retirement, and doesn’t want to lug a lot of camera gear. And his eyes aren’t as good as they used to be, making manual focus more difficult.

I will probably be lugging my camera gear down to Florida next week. Since the Mariners gave Bubba the Craig Wilson treatment (sigh), I’ll go to Florida and stalk Andy Phillips instead.
