Bruce Almighty
According to John Fay, Jay Bruce has finally gotten the call.
Jay Bruce will be promoted to the Reds tomorrow. The corresponding roster to move will be announced then.
Any guesses on the roster move? I’m thinking it might be the LLM. He’s the third catcher, and the third lefty first baseman…which makes him the fifth wheel.
It’s a commentary on the state of the team that Corey Patterson–the lead-off hitter with the .242 not-out percentage–exists and the Latin Love Machine is a viable candidate to go off the roster.
It might be Patterson who goes. It should be Patterson who goes. But I dunno…Dusty seems to like him.
Meanwhile, in Louisville…Bruce is out of the lineup, not surprisingly. Playing CF in his stead is Chris Dickerson. Batting third, Bruce’s usual spot in the lineup, is Andy Phillips, who usually bats cleanup. Phillips is 2 for 4 with a home run. The other Andy, Andy Green, also has a home run tonight (after hitting two yesterday).
Ray Olmedo is 2 for 4, and scored the only run of the game for the Clippers so far.
It’s 2-1 Bats in the bottom of the 9th.
Hmmm. “Caleb” at RR was at the Bats game tonight. He heard that Patterson will be sent down, and Mercker and Bruce called up. Which makes sense, as the Reds are a bit short of pitching this week. But it also means the Reds have to make two roster moves, not just one.
Belisle seems like a good possibility for the other one.
Belisle may not be long for the big leagues, but I don’t think he’ll be sent down just yet. They burned two starters in that marathon game Sunday, and probably can’t afford to substitute a starter for a reliever.
They might even carry an extra pitcher this week, and be short a position player.
Good point. Mercker probably wouldn’t be much of a starter these days 🙂
Holy crap. It’s Hatteberg who has been DFA’d. Fay said it would be yesterday, but I thought he was delusional.
Of course! It makes perfect sense. Hatteberg is a notorious base clogger.
I guess that would explain it. 😛
I can only hope they manage to trade him. They have ten days. Surely someone will want him.
I’m sure someone does want him, but they will wait til the Reds have to release him and sign him for a pro-rated minimum salary and leave the Reds on the hook for the $1.2 million left on his contract.
That only works if only one team wants him. If more than one team wants him, they’ll have to make a deal. Who knows, maybe a bidding war will break out.
We can dream, can’t we?
Dream away, it would be good for us, for sure.
