Daugherty Still a Tool

Cincinnati Enquirer columnist Paul Daugherty, last mentioned on this blog getting skewered by Fire Joe Morgan, has shown that he’s ignorant about more than just baseball.
In an article for Sports Illustrated, Daugherty takes the never-heard position that the NCAA tournament needs to crack down on the upsets. Yup. The thing that makes the tournament so successful is, he thinks, a problem.
Give me a tournament where, after the first weekend, pedigrees take over and pumpkins take off. The meritocracy is assured — yes, Ohio, you really did beat Georgetown! — but the aristocracy is preserved.
Clearly he’s forgotten the tournament from 2008 that featured all 4 number 1 seeds making it to the Final Four and how eye-gouging out boring it was.
Me, I’ll take a Butler trip to the Final Four any day. Too bad that Daugherty never wants to see hometown team Xavier make it. And too bad that he now has a national stage to spread his “ideas.”
Evidently the NCAA seems to think that way too, with all the talk of expanding the tournament to 96 teams.
I listened to Daugherty on the radio once, 2 1/2 minutes of my life wasted.
Guys, what you need is a little perspective. Daugherty was able to put together coherent enough sentences for you to understand what he was saying. For him, that is a victory.
Gee, and here I was thinking it was due to our perceptive qualities.
