Reds’ Daniel Ray Herrera Arrested Drunkenly Wandering Up Highway

Daniel Ray Herrera, the diminutive left handed reliever that the Reds have on assignment down in AAA Louisville right now, was arrested last night for public intoxication. From WLKY.com:
Police said Herrera, 25, was walking along northbound US 31 when he was stopped by Indiana State Police at 4:18 a.m.
ISP arrested Herrera and charged him with public intoxication. When he arrived at the Clark County Jail, his blood alcohol level tested at 0.228.
Herrera is due to be released from the Clark County Jail at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
It’s been a while since anyone in the Cincinnati has been in trouble with the law. Didn’t used to be that way. I remember Brian Shackelford’s arrest on a Milwaukee road trip, and of course, Ryan Freel gave us not one, but two mug shots. Comparatively, wandering up the highway in the wee morning hours seems only LaRussa-esque.
On the plus side, at least he wasn’t behind the wheel.
Well, sure, if you’re looking for _safety_ in your intoxicated infractions. I wonder where he was walking to? He’d made it all the way to Indiana (which I realize isn’t much of a trip…)
I would imagine that some of the players live in Jeffersonville rather than in Louisville.
So the guy was walking along not bothering anybody and was arrested – why? Surely it wasn’t merely because he was responsible enough to walk instead of driving while drunk? Where I live (New York), if you’re staggering along on foot but otherwise behaving yourself, the police are more likely to pick you up and give you a ride home just to make sure you get there safely. Either there is a lot more to this story, or the state police in Indiana are awful desperate for somebody to lock up.
I have never heard of a cop in Indiana giving anyone a ride home. Back at Purdue, they would set up patrols to arrest students walking from the bars to the dorms every weekend.
Well…then with the priorities of law enforcement personnel in these two respective states having thereby been established, I rest my case, Amanda. 🙂
