The ‘Heck, Why Not?’ Game Thread
I'm home. I've got the game on WGN. Why not talk to myself in the comments of a post about how, by embarrassing themselves in this series, the Reds are helping themselves for next year by keeping Dusty Baker employed?
Bronson Arroyo has already given up a hit to Pierre. Gotta love it.
The WGN guy just said that Arroyo is much, much better at night than during the day. 2.something ERA at night; 4.something during the day.
Maybe the guy ought to consider skipping the late-night reruns of Golden Girls.
Ooh! Aurilia’s got error #10 for the series!
David Ross gets in on the error action with the second one here in the first inning. Thanks to him, the inning is not over, but instead the bases are loaded and the Cubs are on the board.
The Reds are on pace for a 54 error game. I don’t think they’ll pull it off, though.
Blanco gets a couple RBI on a double to give the Cubs a 4-run lead in this, the top of the first. Awesome.
How long does Narron leave Arroyo out there? As long as it takes, I reckon. This isn’t hurting his ERA any, and he’ll probably settle down in the second.
If we ever get there.
So, Dunn struck out. I should specify. Dunn struck out in the first.
Ken Broo told me yesterday that in a recent in-depth interview, Castellini emphasized the importance of improving the defense and the pitching. You could certainly interpret that to mean Dunn’s going to be traded for pitching. Especially since I haven’t heard any of those “Dunn is the kind of young player we’re going to build this team around” comments from Castellini lately.
How does he get “Terry-oh” from “Theriot”?
Man, what the heck has happened to Mabry? Wasn’t he decent for the Cardinals? For the Cubs he swings like a pitcher.
Is Chicago where players go to suck? When Derek Lee leaves the team, will he take the league by storm?
We’re gettin’ Killed!
Naw, we’re just luring them into our trap.
Deno just did his Freel impersonation in center, including missing the ball.
That’s mean. Freel’s really done quite well this year.
I proposed Mob Mentality to the RR posters, but it seems like losing is a deathmark for threads.
It’s probably just me.
Working hard today, succor?
Yay! Phillips got a hit!
Kinda. In and out obviously, Red “as hot as we expected” Mama.
How many RHM thongs have sold? other than my dozen, of course.
You have no idea what a relief it was not to have to endure the ego-smashing “meh, you’re sorta warm, but ‘red hot’ is taking it too far.”
Of course, you guys have all heard my “I’m a fan of irony” response before, so I imagine that took the fun out of it.
RHM thongs? Zero. Well, I’ve got one, but I’m not sure that counts.
I have 3 thongs myself. Wore one on Saturday even.
I’m still kicking my lack of planning, not havng bought a clock for the Flava Flav represent. Maybe before the Fest.
Is there anything to The Fest besides standing in line for autographs?
Joel, you’re such a liar. You didn’t even buy a copy of the book until I told you you were mentioned in it.
Is there anything to The Fest besides standing in line for autographs?
I wondered the same thing.
I’m not lying. I didn’t buy the RHM thongs, but I have some homemade ones that I cross-stitched myself. You should see my collection of Posters for the Unmotivated bras.
Fest: I assume there’s beer involved. if not, may be a little shady getting us to come.
When do clocks go on special?
Redsfest…I recall there being a Reds Jeopardy MC’d by Marty, along with other assorted speeches and the like.
Last time I went was years ago, when Pokey was the main attraction. I never stood in line for his autograph, though; instead, I went to all the short lines like LaRue and Tom Hume. Still have that ball lying around somewhere.
Silly boy, you can’t cross-stitch a thong. That would be MUCH better suited to embroidery.
How can I get one of them bras?
RE the clocks going on special, I’ll have to talk to the CTS about that. He’s been wanting to get a new design for our stuff. Suggestions?
I’m not much for the autographs, but if they’ll answer questions for the podcast, that’s a different story.
so how much do you have to pay to get into this thing? if i wanted autographs, i’d just send a baseball card to gabp. it takes awhile, but it usually works out for the non-superstars, the same guys who come to the fest.
CTS may not think this is funny, but the obvious would be a Red Hot Mama in a Red Hot Mama Thong on a Red Hot Mama Clock. Thye’d go like hotcakes, I tell ya’!
Seriously, no offense implied, I’ve got a knack for doing so unintetionally.
I’m really not sure anyone wants to see me in a thong.
Me eating hotcakes, on the other hand…
Daedalus, the site doesn’t say yet. Nobody knows. Probably depends on how many wins we get this year.lol
wait a minute, clayton is pinch hitting for hatte?
i hate narron.
Clayton pinch-hitting for Hatteberg??
There’s got to be some lefty-righty thing going on here, right? Or does Clayton come through with one clutch RBI and find himself the team’s preferred pinch hitter?
C’mon Richie. Had a crummy game yesterday; nothin’ doin’ today. He’s due, right?
//00+!
No seriously, didn’t Mabry used to be good?
So, this is great. It looks like after the performance yesterday, the Cubs don’t trust Dempster. Scott Eyre is pitching and has gotten as far as allowing the go-ahead run to get to the plate.
Ken Griffey, Jr. just stepped out of the dugout. Really?
8-o
GRIFFEY!
Damn, why couldn’t you have done that when it mattered??
Last round up time for the Cubs. According to the official attendance, over 16,000 people showed up for this daytime affair. What do you bet it’s somewhat less than that?
Back when I played softball in high school (and even now in Special Olympics) after a game we’d all line up and high-five the other team saying “good game” to each one of them. In the majors, the winning team stands around and high-fives each other. It’s like a mockery of the childhood tradition! Is this what we want to teach today’s youth??
