So, I guess Milton is going to pitch Sunday, despite having received a cortisone shot and clearly not being 100%. An injured Milton. Lucky us!
Earlier today, when it was looking like Milton might not take the mound again, it suddenly occurred to me that the Reds were down to three starters, and number three was Lohse. We see how well that worked out tonight.
I dunno, I guess, despite all my “enjoy the free-fall” kind of talk, a little tiny part of me still believed. It's hard to look at the second-place standing and just the five games back on the Cards and abandon all hope. But how can a team, even a team in the NLC, possibly sniff the postseason with just three starters? That's not a full rotation; that's barely 216°.
Oh well. Just one more of these and we can go smack around the Cubs for a while.
Yeah, remember how when they acquired him weren’t sure if they’d have a spot for Lohse in the rotation? … That was back when we had Ramirez and we Claussen would soon be available…seems like good times. I sure wish we still had Justin Germano. -jinaz
The better question is probably this: How can a team, even a team in the NLC, possibly sniff the postseason with just two starters?
That’s what Cards fans are trying to figure out. There’s no way Anthony Reyes gets a postseason start when he’s a last resort to start in the regular season, Jeff Weaver shows flashes of capableness with flashes of crappiness, and I think most of us are willing to give up our firstborn to ensure Jason Marquis does not pitch in the postseason.
I can’t take credit for it, but I’ll share: “Carp and Supp, the rest are poop.” Before Suppan got hot and Reyes got “tired”, it was “Reyes, Carp, and pray for tarp.”
“Carp,” “soup,” and “poop.”
Sounds like dinner in St. Louis.
