The Reds dropped their game against the Marlins yesterday, 5-3. Paul Janish was the offensive star, although it wasn’t quite enough for the win. On the plus side, the offense did manage to save the tired bullpen from having to work the bottom of the 9th inning.
Next Game
The Reds try one final time to take the 4-game series from the Marlins when they send Aaron Harang to the mound. Florida counters with Josh Johnson. Game-time is again at 7:10pm EDT, and FSN-OH and 700 WLW both carry it.
Miscellaneous Roster Items
The Reds cut Aaron Miles and Wladimir Balentien 10 days ago. And today was the day the Reds had to deal with them. The Reds released Miles and sent Balentien down to Louisville.
In other roster news, Drew Stubbs is nursing a sore back and will miss a few starts. And in the minors, Bill Bray, the last player standing from Wayne Krivsky’s infamous Trade, had a setback in his attempt to come back from Tommy John surgery.
What to Say to Sound Smart at the Water Cooler
With the Reds receiving no interest in Aaron Miles, they are on the hook for his $2.7 million dollar salary.

The Reds continued to show the world that they like baseball so much, they’ll take on extras without fear. The Reds batters picked up the slack for Bronson Arroyo’s crappy start and won it in the 11th.
Next Game
The Reds have guaranteed a tie of the series with the Marlins. They send out Homer Bailey for the series win against Chris Volstad today at 7:10pm EDT. The game is available on FSN-OH and 700 WLW.
Tell Us What You Really Think, Thom
In the opening game against the Marlins, Thom Brenneman was talking during a commercial break and saying what all of us think whenever Mike Lincoln enters the game, “This game’s about to go into the shitter.” Unfortunately for him, his mic was on, and Redleg Nation has the video. Despite the “indecency”, I have a feeling that Thom will outlast Lincoln.
What to Say to Sound Smart at the Water Cooler
The Reds have won 5 of the 8 games they’ve played, yet no starting pitcher has a winning decision because the winning runs have come in the final at-bat.

Scott Rolen provided the offense for the Reds, hitting two home runs and driving in the go-ahead run–Joey Votto, on thanks to a walk–in the 10th. The Reds won their first game against the Marlins, and move to above .500 for the first time in 2010.
Next Game
Bronson Arroyo starts tomorrow against Nate Robertson. Game-time is 7:10pm EDT, and the game will be available on FSN-OH, MLB Network, and 700 WLW.
Reds Seem Similar to 2009 Squad
Remember last year when the Reds had good pitching, good defense, and about the worst offense in the majors? Remember what the team did to address that in the off-season? Yeah, not much of anything other than praying hoping the youngsters grew and improved. Already this year, familiar trends are emerging.
The starting pitching has been solid, with a 3.11 ERA, good for third in the National League. Meanwhile, the team’s offense ranked 12th in both batting and runs scored.
Dusty Baker’s not worried, which is good. Since he’s not the General Manager, he can’t bring in a power bat. He might have a say in not placing a player who loves making outs in the 2nd spot in the order, though.
What to Say to Sound Smart at the Water Cooler
Johnny Cueto struggled for the Reds in his start yesterday. He’s only 24, but has already made 63 career starts.

The Reds took the series from the Cubs by winning Mike Leake’s debut, 3-1.
Next Game
Johnny Cueto starts against Ricky Nolasco when the Reds travel to face the Marlins today at 7:10pm EDT. The game is available on FSO-HD and 700 WLW.
Chapmania II: Electric Boogaloo
Aroldis Chapman made his professional debut the same day as Mike Leake, only for the Louisville Bats in Toledo, Ohio. Chapman was good, too, hitting 101 on the radar gun a couple times. He lasted 4 2/3 innings, struck out 9 and walked only 1.
What to Say to Sound Smart at the Water Cooler
Mike Leake was just the 21st player since the draft’s creation in 1965 to debut without appearing in the minors. He is the first Red.

Bad-rroyo was nowhere to be seen as Bronson Arroyo lead the Reds to their first win of the season and avoided a sweep by the St. Louis Cardinals. He drove in a run, he struck out Pujols, and he smirked and furrowed his brow after getting hit in the right calf by a Colby Rasmus line drive. Jonny Gomes provided the baseball fireworks, with a walk-off rally-killer to win the game
Next Game
The Chicago Cubs travel to Cincinnati, fresh off losing a 3-game series to the Braves. Homer Bailey faces Carlo Silva at 7:10pm EDT.
Having Some Snuggie Fun
The Reds had entirely too much fun posing with the snuggie giveaway from Opening Night. Check out Nick Masset, Logan Ondrusek, Chris Dickerson, and Micah Owings mugging for the camera with the blankets with sleeves here.
What to Say to Sound Smart at the Water Cooler
Ryan Hanigan started his first game of the year, catching for Bronson Arroyo. Hanigan caught the majority of Arroyo’s starts last year, 24 of 33.
