Brewers 3, Rockies 2: You Take It! No, You Take It!

Boxscore

The Brewers avoided being swept by the Rockies on Sunday thanks to solid pitching.

Milwaukee took an early lead in the first, but that was about all they’d score. Timely hitting was missing for both teams after that. The Brewers left 13 men on base, while the Rockies left 10. It’s like neither team wanted to win.

Jeff Suppan turned in a solid performance for the victory, and the Milwaukee bullpen made the miniscule lead stick with almost 4 innings of scoreless ball.

The Brewers have a day off before traveling to Houston.

Diamondbacks 1, Brewers 10: Bashing Snakes with Brooms

Brewers (32-28)10450000-10140
W: Manny Parra (4-2) L: Micah Owings (6-4)

Boxscore

How does a team improve on an inning where they score 4 runs? They score 5 in the very next.

The Brewers demolished the Diamondbacks yesterday, thanks to overwhelming appearances from both the offense and the defense. Corey Hart and Russell Branyan homered. And can I say how impressive Branyan’s return to the Brewers has been? He’s obviously hitting way above his–or anyone’s–head right now, but there’s no doubt that his OPS of 1.262 since he’s rejoined the team has been exactly what their struggling offense needed.

Milwaukee is now 4 games over .500 and have won 6 in a row. They have a day off to think about what they’ve done before heading to Colorado on Friday.

Episode 101: Home Alone

We haven’t had time to podcast since our 100th. And with RHM being out of town on business this week, it wasn’t looking good, but I cranked up the old recording studio and took a shot at recording a solo effort.

It’s short (that’s what she said) because I discovered quickly that I suck by myself. Amanda makes it sound easy, that’s for sure.

At any rate, enjoy a few short minutes of me rambling about the state of the NLC. Hopefully, we’ll get the podcast back on track again next week.

Astros 1, Brewers 10: Astros Cure for Ailing Brewers

Brewers (29-28)40060000-10100
W: Dave Bush (2-5) L: Shawn Chacon (2-1)

Boxscore

When last we checked in on the Brewers, they were continuing to struggle along, finding it difficult to make to much headway towards .500. Well, apparently Houston was nice enough to bring a cure-all tonic with them up from Texas as the Brewers swept the Astros over the weekend.

Shawn Chacon was terrible for Houston, allowing 4 runs in his one, that’s right, one inning of work. Jack Cassel, who relieved Chacon, wasn’t much better, coughing up 6 (4 earned) in his 2 1/3 innings.

Dave Bush was stellar for Milwaukee, and Ryan Braun and Russell Branyan both homered to lead the offense.

The win puts the Brewers one game above .500 for the first time in a while. They’ll try to stay there as the Diamondbacks and Doug Davis come to town. Jeff Suppan tries to keep the Brewer’s win streak going at 8:05pm EDT.

As for Houston, they have a day off to travel to Pittsburgh.

Braves 8, Brewers 1: Floundering Along

Boxscore

The Brewers continue to have problems reaching .500, let alone moving past it. Manager Ned Yost has been with the team for 6 years now, and I have to think that his seat is warming up. (Not that the injuries to their pitching staff are his fault. The loss of Torrealba was significant.)

In a game that was close until the 5th, Milwaukee mustered only 6 hits and 1 run, and that on a solo shot by Russell Branyan. I was surprised to see his name pop up. Branyan had a homer, a strikeout, and two walks on the day, so it’s nice to see he’s still his same old Three True Outcomes self.

The Brewers next host the Astros tonight at 8:05pm EDT, hoping to gain some Central ground with Manny Parra starting against Brandon Backe.
