Kyle Lohse (1-0) gave one of his great starts yesterday against the Nationals (1-4) and the Cardinals (5-1) reaped all the benefits.

Lohse, who has the consonants at the end of his name pronounced in the reverse order in which they’re spelled, pitched 7 scoreless innings while scattering 4 hits and a walk. Jason Isringhausen (S 3) picked up his third save.

Rick Ankiel was the offensive hero again. The fade he faced last year after the HGH revelation has all but, well, faded. He clubbed his third home run, a solo shot, and also drove in another, to provide St. Louis with more than they’d need.

The Cardinals will take their shiny new best record in the M. L. B. to Houston for the Astros’ home-opener. Todd Wellemeyer (1-0) and Wandy Rodriguez (0-0) are the pitchers at 6:05pm CDT.

The Cardinals’ (3-1) somewhat surprising start to the season continued against the Nationals (3-2).

Braden Looper (1-0) turned in an excellent 6 innings for the win, with Jason Isringhausen (S 2) getting his second save. Odalis Perez (0-1) got the lost.

The Cardinals bullpen has been hit pretty hard, though, so for the Cardinals to continue to win, the starters will have to start taking up more innings. Russ Springer, after allowing 3 runs in no innings in this game, was sent to the DL, so the war of attrition is beginning early.

The two teams play the second game of their series today at 1:05pm EDT. Adam Wainwright (0-0) goes against Matt Chico (0-0).

The Cardinals (2-1) took the series against the defending National League champs the Rockies (1-2), behind a shutout effort from baby-faced Brad Thompson and the St. Louis relief corps. Thompson even drove in one of the runs, which was all the team needed.

Thompson picked up the win, his first, and Jason Isringhausen got his first save. Ubaldo Jimenez walked his way to his first loss.

The Nationals come to town this evening when Odalis Perez starts against Braden Looper at 7:15pm CDT.

Apparently, the Cardinals (1-1) prayed hard after God’s intervention for the first games of the season between them and the Rockies (1-1), and this time the Catholics triumphed.

Todd Wellemeyer was good in 5 innings, ensuring he gets another start, while Rick Ankiel was the star of the game. The rubbermatch of the series is today with Ubaldo Jimenez pitching against Brad Thompson.

Yeah, I know this was last night’s game, but I stayed up late to watch it and didn’t have a chance to write about it until now.

God continued to show his love for the Rockies, last night, stewarding them to a 2 to 1 victory over the Cardinals. Obviously, the All-mighty was disgusted by the turn of events in the game on Opening Day, sending in His rains to cancel the game before the Cardinals’ lead would be official. It’s like His Great Omniscience knew the Rockies would fare better the next day.

Tired of the Rockies being God’s team jokes yet? Okay, I’ll lay off it a bit.
🙂

Kyle Lohse pitched great in his first start for his new team. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, their former sucky pitcher Kip Wells did almost as well.

Yadier Molina, on pace for 162 home runs this season, provided the sole offense for the redbirds in the fifth, but that lead bullpen lost the lead in the 8th.

Ryan Franklin got the loss, and Taylor Bucholz got the win, with Manny Corpas getting his first save.

The two teams play again right now! Todd Wellemeyer’s going against Aaron Cook. The Cardinals even have a lead already. No word on when the man upstairs will make His appearance.
