Yesterday, I took the family down to Victory Field in Indianapolis, Indiana to watch the Louisville Bats defeat the Indians 9-6.
Round about the eighth inning, the Crack Technical Staff and I recorded this week's podcast. In this episode we discuss the Bats game we're looking at, the recent Reds' winning streak, the even-more-recent Reds' losing streak, and the finer points of harrassing relief pitchers as they warm up in the bullpen.
We close out the program with a snippet of Score by Jen Hillard, one of the tracks available on Clutch Hits, the album that benefits the Reds Community Fund. It's available online at the Reds Community Fund Online Shop for $15.

Today on the podcast we talk to Media Designer, Scoreboard Operations Expert, and Screaming Mime David Storm about the concert. We're also planning to chat with Raquel Aurilia for the next episode of the podcast. Chances of getting Bronson Arroyo don't seem good.

On Tuesday I made the trek out to Cincinnati to attend Baseball 101: Luncheon for Ladies, so this week I thought I'd use the podcast to share some audio from that event.
It was quite a haul out to Cincy; about two and a half hours, so to get there at 11 with room to recover from the wrong turns I invariably make, I had to be out the door at 8:30. It takes about an hour to get ready, so even though I took Tuesday off work, I absolutely did not get to sleep in satisfactorily.
I had my baseball CDs in the car and enjoyed the stylings of Oh Say Can You Sing? and Finding My Way. In case you didn't already realize the level of my geekitude.
Mulling about with the crowd outside the Diamond Club entrance before the doors opened at 11, it was impossible not to notice how out-of-place I was. First of all, most of the women seemed to be there in groups. Second of all, most of the women seemed to be retired. Experience tells me that the retirement-age women-in-groups crowd can be extremely passionate about their sports, but perhaps next year we can get a bit of a youth movement going to balance it out a little.

This week on the podcast, I talk with my Crack Technical Staff, a.k.a., Jon, about the important news for the week ending May 6, 2006. Listen to how cute he sounds. Dorky sure, but I've always been helpless against dorky, probably due to my own high dorkiness quotient.
Topics we cover include:
- The all-star ballot and Daedalus's write-in-Brandon-Phillips campaign.
- Who will be back first: Wilson, Griffey, Milton, or Aurilia. (hint: not Griffey)
- The Reds' hot start, including against the great pitchers in the league.
- The use of Coffey in the late innings, but not the latest inning.
- The performance of Williams and Elizardo.
- Womack's fate and the addition of Denorfia and Olmedo.
- Fan fatigue.
- The general lack of respect for the Reds (and how that's going to change).
