ESPN swipes Giants game; FOX Sports stuck with Cubs

FOX Sports Ohio Picks Up June 8th Reds Game

ESPN has selected the June 12th Cincinnati Reds game for their Sunday night exclusive game, which means FOX Sports Ohio can no longer air the game.

As replacement, FOX Sports Ohio will televise in HD:
REDS VS. CUBS
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8

The game will begin at 12:30pm and will be preceded by Reds Live Pregame Show at 12 noon.

Geez, the Reds will be playing the Cubs again so soon? I’ll miss them if there aren’t any more Cubs games left after the All-Star break.

Mr. Red’s Smokehouse to debut May 13

Try “Smoked Cardinal” during the St. Louis series

CINCINNATI (May 10, 2011) – The grand opening of Great American Ball Park’s newest themed dining destination Mr. Red’s Smokehouse is scheduled for Friday, May 13 when the Reds play the St. Louis Cardinals.

Mr. Red’s Smokehouse will serve savory smoked meats such as beef ribs, turkey legs, chicken wings and pulled pork sandwiches along with corn on the cob, macaroni & cheese and creamy coleslaw.

Inspired by barbecue shacks throughout the country, Mr. Red’s Smokehouse has been constructed from repurposed and locally-sourced materials such as rough-cut oak barn siding, reused industrial lumber logs and salvaged steel support columns.

Just like back in the day when smokehouses were made from whatever materials were available, Mr. Red’s Smokehouse keeps that authentic feel with a bar made of polished concrete set on strapped wood barrels and beer kegs on ice in a bath tub salvaged from a renovated Over-The-Rhine building.

Located at the end of the first base concourse overlooking the Ohio River, fans can enjoy the smoked meats at high-top wooden tables or belly-up to the bar and enjoy a cold beer.

Menu
Representatives from the Reds and Delaware North-Sportservice researched the best smoking techniques and adapted the best recipes from the region to develop the menu.

The menu offerings at Mr. Red’s Smokehouse include:

  • Smoked Beef Ribs
  • Smoked Turkey Legs
  • Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich
  • Smoked Chicken Wings
  • Corn on the Cob
  • Macaroni & Cheese
  • Creamy Coleslaw
  • Domestic and craft beers

Rotating Menu Items such as “Smoked Cardinal”
New menu items will be featured each homestand tied to a visiting team and its regional cuisine beginning this Friday with the addition of Smoked Quail to the menu, being playfully named “Smoked Cardinal.”

Jonny Gomes’s Story on ESPN on Tuesday

ESPN’s E:60 on Jonny Gomes: The Man Who Wouldn’t Die

ESPN’s award-winning primetime newsmagazine E:60 goes deep into the life, and near death, of Major League Baseball’s Jonny Gomes in the episode airing Tuesday, May 3, at 7 p.m. ET.

Gomes’ scrappy and grinding style has made him a key part of the Cincinnati Reds’ rise in the National League. His style was a byproduct of a rocky road to the majors that withstood tragedy, deprivation and, almost literally, heartbreak. For E:60, Chris Connelly examines the rollercoaster life of an intense, gritty fan favorite who has never forgotten how lucky he is just to be alive.

Launched in October 2007, ESPN’s E:60 combines investigative reporting, in-depth profiles of intriguing sports personalities and features on emerging star athletes. These stories are presented in a fresh and innovative format that incorporates producer/correspondent meetings.

A preview clip of the Gomes feature can be viewed here.
